SAN REMIGIO HONOURS MERCITO GESTA (PHOTOS) By Rene Bonsubre, Jr. PhilBoxing.com Sun, 18 Dec 2011 San Remigio, Cebu ? Fast rising contender Mercito ?No Mercy? Gesta returned to his father's roots and was honored by the municipality of San Remigio for his accomplishments in boxing which included a win in Las Vegas last November 11 against two-time world title challenger Ricardo Dominguez. Mercito, together with his parents Anecito and Mercedes, met municipal Mayor Jay Olivar and Congressman Benhur Salimbangon (4th District Cebu) and was awarded at the municipal hall. Gesta was greeted by employees and fans and posed for photos. Members of the Cebu media also took part in the motorcade that carried the Gestas around town as people by the roadside waved as the procession passed though the various barangays with its churches, markets, the municipal gym and the Hagnaya wharf. Anecito hails from this town in northern Cebu. He is a kickboxing instructor in the C-Mac gym in Mandaue City. He is also competent in conventional boxing. He told this writer last weekend that he has also been working out and training with Mercito to make sure he will be in fighting shape once he returns to the U.S in January. His other son, Anecito ?Dondon? Gesta, competed in the GMA boxing reality series ?Buhay Boksingero?. Mercito has invested in a piece of land in San Remigio. He had an eventful year, landing a contract with Top Rank Promotions and extended his U.S. winning streak to 14. The WBO NABO Youth lightweight titlist is now 24W-0L-1D, 12 KO's. In their December rankings, the WBO ranks him number seven at jr.welterweight while the WBA rankings as of October 2011 have him at number six at lightweight.
