GLENN DONAIRE WINS HIS COMEBACK FIGHT By Ed de la Vega, DDS PhilBoxing.com Sat, 10 Dec 2011 After a prolonged lay off forced by circumstances beyond his control, Glenn ?The Filipino Bomber? is back on his winning ways. Tonight at Kissimmee, Florida just outside the famed Disney city of Orlando, Donaire took on El Nene, Alex Sanchez (31-8-1, 21) of Puerto Rico. Donaire (19-4-1, 11KO) won via a 9th round TKO when Sanchez failed to answer the bell after eight hard fought rounds that saw Sanchez being dropped in round 2. In the process, Donaire won the interim WBC Latino flyweight title. It would not be a long shot to say that after two more good fights, Donaire should be ready for another title shot. Donaire last fought on July 2008 and lost via a 12 round UD to Ulisis Solis of Mexico. That fight was for the IBF Light flyweight title and was held at Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico. After that fight Donaire went low key and went back working his regular day job. However, the call of the wild did not disappear from his mind. Therefore slowly but surely, he reduced his regular work hours and begun training again at the Kennel Boxing Gym under the guidance of his father, Nonito Donaire Sr. Early last year, the father-son team decided that it was time to revive the career of Donaire. Therefore he gave up his job and devoted his full time training again. Donaire would have fought on ShoBox last week but no opponent can be found for him. Then the call came to come to Florida to fight tonight. Last week he had his physical at San Pedro and came to our office for a new mouthguard. Last Monday, the Team Donaire flew to Orlando and drove to nearby Kissimmee and got ready for the fight. The rest is history. Glenn Donaire is back and I expect him to stay a while longer this time and win a title. With his showing tonight, that could not be too far-fetched.
