MARQUEZ OBSESSED WITH KNOCKING OUT PACQUIAO By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Wed, 05 Oct 2011 WBA lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez is obsessed with knocking out pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao in the third fight of their enthralling trilogy scheduled before a sellout crowd at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on November 12. After the second day of a tough sparring session where he went two rounds each with Ramses Agathon and Jose Emilio Perea, the Mexican legend said he was ?getting the best preparation of my career for the fight on November 12.? Boxing writers Miguel Rivera and Ernesto Castallenos in a story on boxingscene.com quoted Marquez as saying he is ?Going there (Las Vegas) with one goal in mind ? to knock out Manny Pacquiao.? Marquez said he is surrounded by a group of experts because he wants to give himself speed and power to achieve a knockout victory over Pacquiao. However, Marquez conceded that since his rematch with Pacquiao which he lost by a controversial split decision on March 15, 2008, Pacquiao has improved. He said Pacquiao ?shows the teachings s of his trainer Freddie Roach with his boxing. His (Pacquiao?s) punches are more technical, there is more use of the right hand and he has matured into an excellent fighter.? To Marquez ?this fight is about pride, about dignity.? Voicing his oft-repeated claim, Marquez said ?everyone knows I was robbed in the two previous fights.? He then bragged, ?I beat Pacquiao before and I?ll do it again.? Pacquiao?s adviser Michael Koncz told us ?let him say what he wants. But I can sense that Manny is extra motivated for this fight. He is humble so Manny won?t make any predictions but it will be the other way around. He?ll knock out Marquez.? Koncz said Pacquiao is in fabulous shape and will come down to Manila from his training camp in Baguio City on Friday and will leave for Los Angeles the following day. He said he feels that Pacquiao wants to make a statement and put an exclamation mark to end his trilogy with Marquez and that means putting the Mexican away. Carrying the robbery claim even further, Marquez said he was convinced that his brother Rafael Marquez who lost a unanimous decision to WBC featherweight champion Toshiaki Nishioka of Japan last weekend was ?robbed by the judges.? Top Rank promoter Bob Arum told us it was an excellent fight which Nishioka who is a really good fighter, deservedly won. Arum is planning a title shot for reigning WBC/WBO bantamweight champion Nonito ?The Filipino Flash?? Donaire against Nishioka in May or June next year.
