CARLOS TAMARA VICTIM OF BUM DECISION By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Sun, 25 Sep 2011 Carlos Tamara. By all accounts former IBF flyweight champion Carlos ?El Olimpico? Tamara of Colombia was the victim of a bum decision in a clash with Mexico?s Jesus ? Destroyer? Jimenez in Cozumel, Quintana Roo, Mexico on Sunday, Manila Time. The result of the IBF eliminator for the No.2 spot was a twelve round split decision despite the fact that Tamara battered Jimenez down the stretch and seemed like a clear winner. However, one judge scored the fight a 114-114 draw, a second judge had Jimenez a narrow 114-113 winner while the third judge who appeared to reflect the general consensus had Tamara a comfortable winner 116-112. Tamara won the IBF title with a stunning 12th round TKO victory over Brian Viloria in Manila in January 2009 when referee Bruce McTavish stopped the bout with one minute and 15 seconds remaining when Viloria was unable to retaliate as Tamara pinned him against the ropes with a flurry of punches. Viloria was comfortably ahead on points when the end came. The TKO win drew praise from Tamara and his handlers for the fair decision they received in the Philippines which appeared to be in stark contrast with his eliminator against Jimenez. Tamara lost the title in his first defense when he dropped a split decision to against Luis Alberto Lazarte of Argentina on May 29, 2010. He then lost a unanimous ten round decision to undefeated Filipino Milan Melindo in Cebu on November 27, 2010 before coming back with a 2nd round knockout over Jorge Ballesteros last April 8. The 27 year old southpaw Jimenez lost a unanimous twelve round decision to Jean Piero Perez in a battle for the WBA interim flyweight title last January 29 but came back with two successive 3rd round knockouts over Patricio Camacho on June 18 and Jorge Cardenas last August 6. Jimenez is the same fighter who was ranked No.1 but suffered a shocking 1st round knockout at the hands of comparatively unknown Edrin Dapudong in a clash for the WBC flyweight silver title on June 19, 2010. Dapudong, from former North Cotabato governor Manny Pinol?s Braveheart Boxing stable dropped Jimenez twice in the opening round en route to his sensational win.
