LANDERO LOSES IN IBO TITLE FIGHT By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Sun, 25 Sep 2011 Oriental Pacific Boxing Federation minimum weight champion Michael Landero has lost in a bid for the vacant IBO straw-weight title to South Africa?s Hekkie "Hexecutioner" Budler, at Emperors Palace in Kempton Park, South Africa early Sunday morning Manila Time. It was the crowd favorite Budler?s second world title. The former IBO junior flyweight champion moved down in weight to mini-fly to take on the 24 year old Filipino and beat him handily on the scorecards of all three judges two of whom were South Africans. Tony Nyangiwe and Isaac Tshabalala had Budler the winner 119-109 and the third judge Robert Byrd of the US scored it for the South African 118-110. Budler who twice escaped with controversial decisions over veteran Filipino southpaw Juanito Rubillar put on the best performance of his career against Landero in what was his 20th fight that took his record to 19-1 with 6 knockouts. Landero who was coming off nine straight wins was game but was out-boxed by Budler and dropped to 15-5-4 with 5 knockouts. A ringside report from South Africa where promoter Gerry Garcia accompanied Landero said Budler found his range and rhythm from the opening bell. Landero took some time to settle down before demonstrating his ability to launch a two-fisted attack and nailed Budler with several solid uppercuts that saw Budler bleeding at the end of an action-packed fourth round.. Well known TV boxing analyst Moy Lainez of the ?In This Corner? stable of Rommel Nazario who manages Landero had instructed Landero to be aggressive and go for a knockout knowing how difficult it was to win a decision in South Africa. The 23 year old Budler didn?t seem to be rattled, moved well and kept the pressure on Landero who failed to maintain a sustained attack and tended to fight in spurts. South African media reported that the spectators certainly got their money?s worth as the two fighters threw more punches than the fans sometimes see in a whole fight card. Budler was coming off a knockout win over unknown Luyanda Nkwanka last May after losing his IBO title to Gideon Buthelezi last January.
