LANDERO TO GO FOR KO AGAINST BUDLER IN IBO TITLE FIGHT By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Thu, 22 Sep 2011 Michael Landero. Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation minimumweight champion Michael Landero (15-4-4, 5 KO?s) will go for a knockout against former IBO light flyweight champion Hekke Budler of South Africa at Emperor?s Park in Kempton, on Sunday, Manila Time. Well known TV boxing analyst Moy Lainez told philboxing.com/insidesports.ph that Landero who has been in South Africa since last Sunday along with ?In This Corner? promoter Gerry Garcia in order to get acclimatized, was instructed ?to try for a knockout? which is the only way to guarantee a win in South Africa. Budler has a record of 18-1 with 6 knockouts and is a former IBO junior flyweight champion but is moving down fron 108 to 105 pounds to take on Landero. Budler who twice fought veteran Filipino southpaw Juanito Rubillar with the first fight ending in a hugely controversial decision resulting in IBO president Ed Levine ordering a rematch, lost his title to Gideon Buthelezi last January but came back to score a fourth round stoppage against unheralded Luyanda Nkwanka in May. The 24 year old Landero has won his last nine fight and is ranked No. 2 by the IBO while Budler is listed at No. 19. Both Budler and Landero are not considered big punchers although Landero is regarded as the harder hitter who has been given specific instructions by his handlers to go for Budler?s body. Referee for the title fight is Terry O?Connor of England while the judges are Robert Byrd of the US and Tony Nyangwe and Isaac Tshabalala both of South Africa. Lainez recalled that prior to leaving Landero had asked his manager Rommel Nazario why he was not going to South Africa to watch him win by a knockout but was reminded that Saturday marks the 2nd death anniversary of Rommel?s father and pound for pound king Manny Pacquiao?s father-figure Rod Nazario and he could not leave.
