Aguelo wins PBF Featherweight title in Siquijor

PhilBoxing.com

Siquijor ? Adonis ?TI Yamagata? Aguelo of the TI Cebu Stable relied on a third round surge to subsequently stop Jake Verano of Bukidnon in the fourth round and win the vacant Philippine Boxing Federation Featherweight title in front of a highly animated crowd at the Siquijor Capital Square.

The adversaries had a feeling out strategy in the first round. Verano was the busier fighter in round two but Aguelo went to work in the third, scoring with hard punches to the head and ribs. In the fourth, Aguelo fired a sharp right uppercut that knocked Verano down.

Verano tried to get up but had difficulty seeing from his left eye due to a gash on his eyelid inflicted by a punch. Seeing that Verano was in no position to continue, referee Ben Necessario declared Aguelo the winner by TKO at the 1:07 mark.

Bobby ?Rajah Rov? Sentillas engaged fellow southpaw Robert Awetin in a scintillating six round brawl that had the sell-out crowd on the edge of their seats. Sentillas, who represented Siquijor?s Princesa Bulakna Resort for this card, once again showed the all-action style that made him the Best Boxer of the ?Buhay Boksingero? reality TV series.

Awetin staggered Sentillas in the second round with a hard left. Just as he was being pummelled, Sentillas fired back and pounded Awetin with hard shots. Sentillas landed the harder punches in the subsequent rounds and a hematoma started to form under Awetin?s left eye.

But Awetin hung tough and came back for more. In the last round, Sentillas wisely used his jab and lateral movement to protect his lead and win by unanimous decision.

The scores ? 59-55, 59-55 and 58-56.

For the other undercard bouts:

Honey Boy Vidad of Siquijor used a right hook to the midsection to stop an exhausted Aljun Salogaol at the 2:59 mark of the 4th round.

Renoel Pael knocked out Jessie Dignos with a right uppercut to the abdomen in the third round. Official time 0:54.

Bryan Samson of Siquijor needed only one punch and 37 seconds of the first round to knockout out Romy Augis.

In the opening bout of the evening, Alvin Aresgado of Siquijor beat Rico Pael by unanimous decision after four rounds. The scorecards read 38-37 for all three judges.

This boxing event was held Thursday as part of the celebrations for the ?Araw ng Siquijor?. The promotion was sponsored by their provincial government, Princesa Bulakna Resort, and RWS Promotions. The bouts were sanctioned and supervised by the officials of GAB- Cebu.

Writer?s note ? Sentillas vs Awetin was erroneously reported as an 8 rounder in the fight preview article.

Philboxing would like to thank the people of Siquijor for their hospitality and for supporting the fight game.
