WBC TAKES STRONG ISSUE WITH AMATEUR BOXING BODY, AIBA By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Fri, 02 Sep 2011 World Boxing Council president Don Jose Sulaiman has taken strong issue with the international governing body for amateur boxing ? AIBA ? over the case of the Romanian Boxing Federation which has reportedly been threatened with expulsion by AIBA. Sulaiman said the WBC and the EBU have received news that AIBA, under its president Dr. Ching-Kuo Wu has threatened the Romanian sports authorities to request new elections for the Romanian Federation and the expulsion of its President, Rudel Obreja ?as if AIBA was the only boxing organization in the world and as if AIBA has the freedom to interfere and rule over the autonomy and freedom of the countries of the world against electing their own officers and establish their own constitution and laws.? In a strongly-worded statement Sulaiman noted that the WBC is an organization founded 50 years ago and with an infrastructure of 164 nations affiliated to the organization. He said the Romanian Boxing Federation and its president Rudel Obreja are long standing members of the World Boxing Council-WBC- and the European Boxing Union- EBU, and have participated for long in its corresponding professional boxing. In a statement issued from the WBC headquarters in Mexico City Sulaiman said ?the WBC and the EBU extend their absolute support to the boxing and sports authorities of Romania and strongly offer their doors open for the struggle, work and freedom of action to the Romanian Boxing Federation and its president Rudel Obreja.? He claimed that AIBA ?is showing the world of sports their dictatorial, monopolistic, arbitrary and disrespectful intention to rule the world of boxing not only in their amateur field but also in the professional world which the WBC strongly protests and will struggle against all those who go back in history to impose dictatorial rulings, which goes against the sport of boxing and all the people and institutions of the sport.?
