FIL-AUSSIE HEATH ELLIS BEATEN IN TITLE FIGHT By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Sun, 24 Jul 2011 Fil-Australian Heath ?The Heat? Ellis has lost in his bid to win the interim WBC World Youth Light-Middleweight Title in the Sunshine Skating Center in Melbourne, Australia, Friday night. The promising 23 year old was beaten by Thailand?s 27 year old Patomsuk Pathompothong who scored a handy win with all three judges giving the nod to the aggressive Thai who improved his record to 13-1-1, 8 knockouts while Ellis dropped to 14-3-1 with 7 knockouts. IBF official and boxing writer Ray Wheatley reported that Aneka Williams and Andrew Campbell scored the fight 96-94 for Pathompothong while the third judge Ignatius Missalidis had it even at 95-95. Also on the card welterweight Filipino Ranee ?KO Kid? Ganoy who is 31 years of age made short work of Thai opponent Sapapetch Sor Sakaorat winning by a knockout at 2:51 of the opening round to improve his record to 32-11-2 with 28 knockouts. Ganoy?s Thai opponent fell to 23-9 with 13 knockouts. Heath was put on the defensive by the aggressive Pathompothong who caught him with some powerful shots to the head and body. Heath who was quick on his feet tried to outbox the Thai but failed. The Thai fighter?s handler Jimmy Chaichotchuang told Wheatley that Pathompothong was only a welterweight but dominated the highly regarded Ellis. He recalled that the Thai fighter spent several years in a Bangkok prison and started his professional career given day leave to box on one of Chaichotchuang?s boxing promotions. He noted that the ageless Bernard Hopkins served time in prison before becoming a boxing great and Pathompotong looked at Hopkins as an inspiration. Although the hard-hitting Ganoy has knocked out three-Australian champions, one Commonwealth champion & former IBF World champion Robbie Peden, Ganoy has had an up and down career and failed to fulfill his true potential as a world title hope. Ellis won the WBC Asian Boxing Council Continental light middleweight title when he blasted Yodmongkol Singmanasak last March 18 to win by a 2nd round knockout. Earlier, Ellis defeated Benny Horra in a rough and tumble bout to score an eight round unanimous decision last November 19.
