CONDES FIGHTS FOR WBC SILVER MINIMUM WEIGHT TITLE IN BANGKOK By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Fri, 17 Jun 2011 Florante Condes. Former IBF minimum weight champion Florante Condes will fight Thailand?s Wanheng Menayothin for his WBC silver minimum weight title in Bangkok on June 24. The 31 year old Condes has reportedly been training hard for the fight according to his aunt Ms. Marilou Valencia who said the title shot was arranged by a certain Brico Santig who helps arrange fights in Thailand. She said Condes ?has been training and running to keep fit? adding that ?we hope he makes it so that he can get back to the scene again.? After his career went downhill following his loss of the IBF minimum weight title to Raul Garcia by a split decision in Mexico on June 14, 2008 and then suffered a lopsided twelve round defeat at the hands of South Africa?s Nkosinathi Joyi, boxing patron Tony Aldeguer gave Condes a break and featured him in two fight cards telecast by ABS-CBN in its ?Pinoy Pride? series. In his first outing on August 28, 2010, C ondes won an eight round unanimous decision over Indonesian journeyman Sofyan Effendi and followed it up with a 7th round TKO over Japan?s Kenichi Horikawa although Condes was unimpressive in his debut as a light flyweight. Aldeguer pointed out that he couldn?t train by himself in Cainta, Rizal with no solid sparring partners and said he would get him some really good fights provided he spent at least three weeks training in Cebu. Aldeguer wanted Condes to avail of the ALA trainers such as young Joseph Baldago who was impressed with Condes? pounching power and spar against a roster of good fighters. Condes declined the invitation. Known as ?The Little Pacquiao? Condes won the world title from Indonesia?s Muhammad Rachman on July 7, 2007 but lost it in his first defense. He faces Menayothin, the 25 year old undefeated champion with a record of 16-0 with 4 knockouts . Menayothin won the interim title with a twelve round unanimous decision over Filipino Jayson Rotoni on December 24, 2009 and followed up by winning the vacant WBC silver title by a ten round technical decision over another Filipino Remy Cuambot last January 6.
