Super featherweight Michael Farenas has scored an impressive majority decision over former WBO North American Boxing Organization champion and world title challenger Daniel ?The Prophet? Attah of Nigeria at the Morongo Casino Resort and Spa in Cazazon, California.
Two judges scored the fight by a wide margin for the Filipino southpaw. Fritz Werner has Farenas winning 79-71 while Fernando Villareal scored it for Farenas 78-72. However, the third judge James Jen-Kin scored the fight even ay 75-75.
Jen-Kin?s scorecard was surprising since Farenas dropped Attah in round seven and the Nigerian was also deducted a point in round six.
Boxingscene.com reported that Farenas ?allowed Attah to win the early rounds, but woke up in the middle of the fight and scored a knockdown in the seventh. Attah lost a point in the sixth for continued holding.?
With the impressive win, his fifth in the US, the prot?g? of former two division world champion Gerry Penalosa improves his record to 31-3-3 with 26 knockouts while Attah drops to 25-7-1 with 9 knockouts.
Prior to the fight Penalosa told the Inquirer that should Farenas who was trained by Freddie Roach win impressively there was a possibility he would fight world champion Yuriorkis Gamboa, next.
Meantime 34 year old southpaw Juanito Rubillar lost his fourth fight in a row when he suffered a 7th round TKO at the hands of WBC Silver super flyweight champion Oscar Ibarra in Puebla, Mexico.
