CHAVEZ JR, MARTIROSYAN BLAST EACH OTHER IN SPARRING

PhilBoxing.com

Now that pound for pound king Manny Pacquiao has finished his last assignment by scoring an easy twelve round decision over a reluctant Shane Mosley, trainer Freddie Roach has shifted his attention to two of his most promising young fighters ? Julio Cesar Chavez Jr and Vanes Martirosyan.

It was Chavez Jr?s media day when Roach asked the two youngsters to spar six rounds with the legendary Julio Cesar Chavez, the Mexican all-time great watching his son?s performance from ringside along with his two other sons Christian and Omar.

Chavez Jr and Martirosyan put on a show as they blasted each other with some vicious shots.

Chavez Jr worked on body shots while Martirosyan landed some heavy punches to the jaw of the young Mexican who, according to strength and conditioning guru Alex Ariza is in great shape.

Roach said after the sparring session he wanted to drive home a message. And that is that Chavez Jr ?is in top condition and ready to fight for the world title.?

Roach added ?The same goes for Vanes. This is the best he?s looked in a long time.?

Chavez Jr battles WBC Middleweight Champion Sebastian Zbik at the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles on June 4 while Martirosyan will take on Saul Roman in an eliminator bout on the undercard.

The 25 year old Chavez Jr is undefeated with a record of 42-0-1 with 30 knockouts and is ranked No. 1 while the 29 year old WBC middleweight champion Zbik of Germany has a record of 30-0 with 10 knockouts.

Martirosyan, nicknamed ?Nightmare? originally from Armenia fights out of Glendale, California. The 25 year old is undefeated with a record of 29-0 with 18 knockouts and is ranked No. 1 by the WBO and No. 4 by the WBC and IBF.

His 30 year old Mexican opponent Roman is ranked No. 7 by the WBO and No. 8 by the WBC and has a record of 34-8 with 29 knockouts.

The fight card is a promotion of Top Rank and Zanfer Promotions of Fernando Beltran.
