Promoter Aljoe Jaro praises new GAB policy By Rene Bonsubre, Jr. PhilBoxing.com Sun, 24 Apr 2011 Promoter Aljoe Jaro wrote philboxing an e-mail expressing his praise and satisfaction with the new policy of the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) to cancel the old rule of allowing only boxers rated in the top fifteen here in the country and those who have won at least thrice here in the Philippines to fight abroad. Jaro said that the new GAB administration has listened to the complaints of the promoters including their difficulties in staging local bouts. Most boxers are suffering because of this because they cannot have a regular income. He said that since the GAB recently allowed Filipino boxers who fight at the six or eight round level to fight abroad against foreign boxers with the same level of experience, his boxer Ricardo Roa won a six round fight in Thailand against Phupha Por Nobnum last April 11 by unanimous decision. Roa was coming off two losses, not expected to win, but beat the odds. Jaro also cited Ivan Soriano of the Yraola boxing stable who knocked out his Thai opponent last Friday. Soriano was an 8 round fighter here in the country. Jaro also mentioned Larry Canillas of the ALA gym, who was coming off a loss last year, but won the PABA superbantamweight title by stopping Sukkasem Kietyongyuth in the 9th round in a fight held Friday in Rachaburi, Thailand. Jaro said the GAB has allowed these boxers to fight abroad, they earned more money and also scored big wins. He said that as long as the boxers have completed their papers and passed their medical requirements and they are matched properly, GAB Chairman Juan Ramon Guanzon allows boxers who are six to eight rounders to fight abroad. Jaro praised the GAB leadership for this and said that if this was only done before, the country would have produced more regional champions. Jaro is also optimistic that before Manny Pacquiao retires, we can find more boxers who can compete at a high level.
