National Age-Group Chess set April 8-12

Everything is ready for the 2011 National Age-Group Chess Championships scheduled April 8-12 at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Gymnasium in Lingayen town in Pangasinan.

Sponsored by the provincial Government of Pangasinan, headed Gov. Amado Espino, and organized by the Pangasinan Chess Federation in coordination with the National Chess Federation of the Philippines, competitions will be in six age levels, according to Grandmaster Jayson Gonzales, chair of the grass root development program committee of the National Chess Federation of the Philippines.

These are in the 18-under for boys and girls, 16-under,m 14-under, 12-under, 10-under and 8-under. Winners in each age-bracket, Gonzales said during Friday?s SCOOP Sa Kamayan weekly session , will represent the country in the Asian youth Championships the country is hosting May 14-22 in Subic, Zambales.

?We are expecting no less than 300 players to participate in the tournament, making it the biggest competitions in the youth category,? Gonzales, who was accompanied in the session, sponsored by Coca Cola Bottling Philippines, TV-5 and FILA, by Robert Himbrebuenao, vice president of the PCF, secretary general Ron Vergara and coordinator Robert Bautista.

The National Age-Group competitions will be preceded by a two-day Open tournament on April 4 and 5 at the Pangasinan Capitol Complex. Hombrebueno, speaking in behalf of the sponsoring Provincial government of Pangasinan, said plays will be in the open and kiddies classes.

A total of P50,000 in cash prizes are at stake in the Open category with P15,000 going to the winner who will also going home with a trophy. Second placer will get P10,000 with the third to the seventh placer pocketing P7,000, P5,000, P3,000, P2,000 and P2,000, respectively. The eighth to 15th finishers will go home richer by P1,000 each.
The one who emerged triumphant in the kiddies (14-under) tournament will get P4,000; second P2,000; third P1,000; fourth P1,000 and 5th to 10th P500 each.
