DUGONG KAMPYON: Pe?alosa stops Bacquiano in 1 By Rene Bonsubre, Jr. PhilBoxing.com Sun, 03 Apr 2011 CEBU CITY - Dodie Boy Pe?alosa, Jr. won his fourth professional fight by knockout ? his third straight in the first round ? against Roel Bacquiano at the Cebu City Sports Institute Arena in Pasil, San Nicolas. The southpaw Pe?alosa did not waste time ripping up his opponent with head and body shots from the opening bell. He trapped Bacquiano in his own corner then sent him down with a powerful left straight. The referee waived the fight off at the 1:33 mark. Dodie,Jr is the son of former IBF lt.flyweight and flyweight champion Diosdado ?Dodie Boy? Pe?alosa. His victory capped the Saturday night fight card billed as ?Dugong Kampyon?. In the supporting main event, Romnick Magos beat Anthony Sabalde by 5th round TKO in a free swinging brawl. Sabalde was knocked down by a series of head and body shots in the 4th round. Magos continued his assault but was deducted a point for holding at the back of the head. In the 5th, Sabalde was deducted a point for excessive holding was he was trying to survive. Both boxers resorted to holding and hitting until Magos sent Sabalde down again with a barrage of body blows. Sabalde got up as he was being counted but signaled that he had enough. Official time ? 2:23. Sonny Katiandagho survived a knockdown in the opening round courtesy of a counter left hook and rallied in the next three rounds to win by split decision over Ryan Maano. The scorecards read ? 38-37 Maano and two judges had it 38-37 for Katiandagho. Nick Joy Bacalso won by unanimous decision against Erwin Yamo. Bacalso pinned and battered Yamo in the 2nd but Yamo still finished the round despite being on unsteady legs. In the 3rd, Yamo was fading and gasping for air but still trying to fight back. In the 4th, Bacalso finally knocked Yamo down but he got up and finished the fight on his feet. The scores read 40-35, 39-36 and 40-35 all for Bacalso. Joe Marie Yuson and Roldan Bereso fought to a rough and tumble four round majority draw. The scorecards read 39-37 Yuson and two judges had it 38-38. In the first pro bout of the evening, Rommel Banquierigo won by split decision over Sherwin Caday. In the 2nd round, a point was deducted from Banquierigo for an accidental headbutt which opened a small cut on the corner of Caday?s left eyebrow. Both boxers went for broke in the 4th and final round knowing it was a close fight. The scorecards read 38-37 Caday and two judges had it 38-37 for Banquierigo. The event was opened by thirteen pairs of entertaining amateur fights featuring local standouts. The professional fights were supervised by the Games and Amusements Board.
