PINOY PRIDE 5 UNDERCARD LINE-UP BARED

PhilBoxing.com

Cebu City ? Boxing fans in Bacolod City will get to see their world champion Donnie ?Ahas? Nietes make his first step towards a second world title when he fights Armando Vasquez of Mexico in a ten round non-title light flyweight contest this April 9 at the St. LaSalle Coliseum.

The undercard of ALA Promotion?s PINOY PRIDE 5 is just as mouth-watering.

Jason Pagara (25W-1L, 14 KO?s) will fight for the WBO Youth Asia-Pacific junior welterweight title against Tanzania?s Deo Njiku (11W-4L, 9 KO?s). The 18 year old Pagara had a highlight reel first round knock out against Billy Sumba of Indonesia last January. Njiku holds the Tanzanian lt.welterweight coastal title.

WBO Oriental featherweight champion Lorenzo Villanueva (19W with 18 KO?s -0L-1 NC) will defend his crown against another Tanzanian, Ramadhani Shauri (9W-2L-1D, 6 KO?s) in what promises to be a twelve round slugfest. The East African has won his last five fights, four by knockout. Villanueva, who traces his roots to Negros Occidental is one of the most fearsome pure punchers this country has produced. Together with stablemate Rommel Asenjo, he signed a multi-year fight contract with ALA Promotions.

PABA bantamweight titlist Roli Gasca (15W-1L, 2 KO?s) will face Ngaotawan Sithsaithong (8W-5L-1D, 4 KO?s) of Thailand in a ten round special attraction. Gasca gained some semblance of notoriety in Thailand after knocking out Tabtimdaneg Na Rachawat, who was highly ranked in the WBA.

But the match-up that made boxing connoisseurs sit up and pay attention was between Arthur ?El Matador? Villanueva (15W-0L, 11 KO?s) of Bacolod City and Mark Anthony Geraldo (19W-2L-3D, 10 KO?s) of Bukidnon. Both are considered top notch, up and coming prospects and this early meeting promises to be a tactical eight round battle. Villanueva won the Philippine title last year with an impressive 7th round TKO win against Brix Ray.

This fight card will coincide with the biggest festival of them all in Negros Occidental, the PANAAD FESTIVAL. The event is a thanksgiving celebration and vow to the Divine Providence in exchange for good life. One day before Pinoy Pride 5, there will be another boxing event sponsored by Cobra Energy Drink which will feature hometown boy, Mark Gil Melligen.
