RAY LAS PINAS FAILS IN BID TO WIN IBF PAN PACIFIC TITLE By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Wed, 02 Mar 2011 Tough Ray Las Pinas (11-3-4, 6 KO?s), the Philippines junior featherweight champion, has failed in his bid to win the vacant IBF Pan Pacific title, dropping a twelve round unanimous decision to South Korea?s Jae Sung Lee (11-3-1, 7 KO?s) in Seoul last Sunday. IBF official Ray Wheatley reported that the rangy Lee who enjoyed a four inch height advantage outworked Las Pinas in round one but the aggressive Filipino fought back connecting with hard rights and left hooks to the head of the Korean in rounds two and three. Lee came back in the next three rounds to turn the tide but Las Pinas nailed him with some vicious rights to the head that staggered Lee in rounds seven and eight. But Lee once again fought back and hurt Las Pinas in the championship rounds with long range combinations to the head and body to win a majority decision. South Korean judge Won Tak Yoon had Lee winning by a margin of 117-111 while the second Korean judge, Wan Soo Yuh had it much closer at 115-113. Filipino judge Rey Danseco scored the fight even at 114-114. Wheatley quoted promoter Sunghung Lee who said ? We are very happy to have new IBF Pan Pacific champion Jae -Sung Lee in South Korea. Ray Las Pinas was a good opponent who came to South Korea and gave Jae-Sung Lee a very hard fight.? Jae ? Sung Lee has had five fights in the US. In his last appearance at Yankee Stadium Lee lost by a 6th round TKO to undefeated Jorge Diaz (13-0, 8 KO?s). He also lost by a 4th round TKO to another undefeated fighter Miguel Angel Garcia in Las Vegas on June 26, 2008. However, Lee stopped Andre Nichols in six rounds and scored a 2nd round TKO Tabron Farmer in Columbia, South Carolina in 2009. Las Pinas won the Philippine title when he stopped journeyman Ruben Santilanosa in seven rounds in 2010 but dropped twelve round decisions to WBO No.2 Sod Kokietgym and WBO No.12 Nino Magboo, also in 2010.
