The cast of PINOY PRIDE 4: PHILIPPINES VS THE WORLD had a public sparring session at the Parkmall to promote the upcoming fight card to be held at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel this March 19. Milan ?Metodico? Melindo sparred with Jomar Cordinillo for three rounds. The unbeaten Melindo (23W-0L, 7 KO?s) showed his powerful hooks and infighting ability. Melindo will face Rosendo Vega of Mexico in the card?s main event. AJ ?Bazooka? Banal sparred with Mark Bernaldez also for three rounds. Banal showed his speed and lateral movement which will be useful when he defends his WBO Asia-Pacific crown against Francis Miyeyusho of Tanzania. Tennis star Cecil Mamiit talks to the crowd inviting them to the Philippines vs Japan Davis Cup tie which will be played in Cebu on March 4 - 6. First year pro Roma Rate started the festivities and showcased his counter left hook against Zalde Aroa for two rounds. Then the popular Jojo ?Flash? Intor gave the crowd two comedic rounds against Melvin Gumban. But the crowd wanted more and Intor obliged and they sparred for another round. Albert Pagara sparred for three rounds with Jicky ?Batang Boljoon? Gako. Albert is a good body puncher and is the younger brother of lightweight prospect Jason Pagara. OPBF flyweight champion Rocky Fuentes sparred with Boyce Sultan. Fuentes has successfully defended his title three times last year and will figure in a non-title fight this time against Jemmy Gobel of Indonesia. ALA Gym rookies Pagara, Sultan and Rate will fight Pable Rey Seneres, Francis Solis and Camilo Rey Seneres respectively. Also seeing action at the Waterfront will be Marjohn Yap (14W-5L, 7 KO?s) who will face Japanese Kenichi Yamaguchi (16W-1L-2D, 4 KO?s) in an eight round non-title superbantamweight fight. Lightweight Romeo Jakosalem will fight an undefeated Canadian prospect Steve Claggett. Also in attendance were WBO minimumweight champion and Cebu Sportswriters? Athlete of the Year Donnie ?Ahas? Nietes, Mark Jason Melligen and Rey ?BoomBoom? Bautista. They invited the crowd to watch the fights. The Philippine Tennis Team for the Davis Cup Tie versus Japan also attended the event.
