Gesta's parents to accept his citation from Cebu Sportswriters on fight day

Cebu City - By coincidence or by design, unbeaten Filipino prospect Mercito ?No Mercy? Gesta of Labogon, Mandaue City will fight Genaro Trazancos of Mexico again on the same day that he will be awarded with a special citation from Cebu sportswriters during the 29th Sportswriters Association of Cebu (SAC)-San Miguel Brewery (SMB) Cebu Sports Awards.
Mercito's parents, Aniceto and Mercedes, will be attending the event to accept the award. Because of the time difference - Cebu is sixteen hours ahead of California ? news of the fight result will most probably reach them an hour or two before the ceremonies will start at the Ayala Activity Center at 3 o'clock in the afternoon here in Cebu.
The Cebu Sports Awards is considered the ?Oscars? of sports in this island. Awards will be given to athletes in various disciplines who have won at the local, national and international level.
Both Gesta (20W-0L-1D, 10 KO's) and Trazancos (22W-13L-1D, 13 KO's) made weight during the official weigh-in at Longshoreman's Hall in San Francisco, California Thursday (U.S. West Coast Time) for their junior welterweight battle Friday night (Saturday A.M. in Cebu) at the same venue.
Gesta is honored for winning the vacant NABO Youth lightweight title by stopping Oscar Meza in four rounds last June in Florida. The Cebuano southpaw won all of his four fights in the United States last year, three by the short route. This is the second time he will meet Trazancos, who he beat by 7th round KO last August in Arizona.
Other boxers honored this Saturday are major awardee and Athlete of Year nominee Donnie Nietes, Milan Melindo, Rocky Fuentes, Roli Gasca and Malcolm Tunacao.
