GESTA WINS IN SAN DIEGO, SERVES NOTICE TO THE LIGHTWEIGHT DIVISION By Ed de la Vega, DDS PhilBoxing.com Sat, 23 Oct 2010 San Diego, CA:- Tonight at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel just outside of this city?s downtown, Filipino slugger Mercito ?No Mercy? Gesta placed another notch in his record?s win column via an impressive win over rugged old veteran, Ivan ?Relampago? Valle (28-10-3,24KO) of Los Mochis, Mexico. With the win Gesta (20-0-1,10KO) served notice to the lightweight division that a new player is in town. And if they blink, he is bound to run over them. The fight was the main event shown live on Telefutura?s Solo Boxeo Tecate and was promoted by Jorge Marron?s Production and Don Chargin Promotions. Valle was reputed to be a strong puncher but nothing seemed to work for him as from the get go Gesta begun raining punches on him from all angles. Gesta was quick. In fact, too quick for the Mexican! Gesta obviously benefited from the sparring he had with no. 1 rank Antonio de Marco who is likewise a refuted hard and quick puncher. Gesta knocked Valle down twice in round one and it was apparent Valle never recovered from the merciless onslaught of Gesta. In fact, if Gesta had another twenty seconds in round one, he could have finished Valle there and then. As round two started, Gesta resumed his merciless attack. Valle?s corner saw no use to allow the fight and they signaled referee Pat Russel that they had enough. Russel thus waved off the fight at 28 seconds of round two. During a short interview at the dressing room, Gesta indicated that as soon as he landed the first punch on Valle and saw his reaction, he knew it was just a matter of time and he will knock him out. In fact he said: - ?If I did not run out of time in round one, the fight would have ended earlier." Vince Parra, Gesta?s manager said that after a short rest, he will sit down with Gesta and plot their next move. But first, he will allow Gesta to have an R and R in the Philippines. Gesta has not been home for 4 years and he said that he wants to have a short rest and visit friends and family. For what ever it is worth, one of the judges in tonight?s fight was Jonny Davis of Anaheim, CA., the lone Filipino licensed boxing judge in the California.
