Condes (23-5-1, 20 KO?s) wants to regain the world title he lost in a somewhat controversial split decision to Raul ?Rayito? Garcia in the Mexican?s hometown of La Paz on June 14, 2008. Condes who faces Indonesia?s 22 year old Sofyan ?The Cobra? Effendi on the blockbuster fight card ?Philippines vs The World? at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino on August 28 worked out at the late Rod Nazario?s ?In This Corner? gym in Sucat, Paranaque last Monday when he sparred four rounds with tough Danilo Pena and Lolito Sonsona and did well. Condes told us ?I am in good condition because I always train and stay in shape.? Before his workout Condes weighed 110 pounds and said that he never has problems making weight and was in fact ?always below the stipulated weight limit.? The former world champion said he was thankful for the opportunity given him to fight Effendi on a major fight card of ALA Promotions in partnership with the giant broadcast network ABS-CBN and said ?I have trained hard because I want to once again become a world champion.? Condes, the power-punching southpaw noted that after he got married he ? wanted more than ever to get back into boxing and to become a world champion once again.? Condes won the world title with a hard-fought but well-deserved victory over Indonesia?s Muhammad Rachman in Jakarta on July7, 2007. After losing his title to Garcia the IBF No. 11 and the Pan Asia Boxing Association No. 1 ranked fighter scored a 5th round technical decision over Ronnelle Ferreras on December 13, 2008 before dropping a twelve round decision to Nkosinathi Joyi in an IBF title eliminator in South Africa on June 26, 2009. Effendi who has a record of 10-82 with 8 knockouts is also heavy handed as shown by his record. He is ranked No. 10 by the Oriental Pacific Boxing Federation and No. 6 by PABA. Effendi is coming off a four round decision over Suryana on April 21 this year. Prior to that he dropped a ten round decision to Heri Amol in a battle for the Indonesian minimum weight title after losing by a 6th round technical decision in an OPBF title fight against Japan?s Katsuhiko Iezumi who was cut on the left eyelid due to an accidental head-butt with two judges having the Japanese ahead 58-56 and one judge scoring it even at 57-57.
