SYLVESTER LOPEZ DEFENDS WBC INT?L TITLE AGAINST WANDEE By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Wed, 28 Jul 2010 Sylvester Lopez, one of the more promising and dedicated fighters of promoter Garbriel ?Bebot? Elorde Jr defends his WBC International super flyweight title against Thai veteran and former world interim flyweight champion Wandee Singwancha at the Ynares Sports Center in Pasig on Saturday. The 22 year old Lopez is a solid fighter and does possess a powerful right as evidenced when he won the vacant title with an 8th round TKO over tough Korean contender Jong Nam Park on April 5, 2009 and retained his crown with a 5th round TKO of Japan?s game Katsumi Makiyama on November 28, 2009 also at the Ynares Sports Center in Pasig. Lopez hardly rests in-between bouts and told us he is always in the gym preparing for his next fight. Singwancha suffered a stunning one-punch, 2nd round knockout against ?Marvelous? Marvin Sonsona which catapulted Sonsona to a title fight which he won against Jose ?Carita? Lopez of Puerto Rico but subsequently lost when he failed to make the weight in his first defense against Mexico?s Alejandro Hernandez in November 2009. Since that defeat Wandee has recovered by winning six fights in a row including the last three by TKO, showing he is back near his best and ready to give Lopez a rough time. However, the excellent physical condition of Lopez, his comparative youth and his talent are expected to help him retain his WBC International title and move forward in his bid for a world title shot. Lopez, nicknamed ?Silver? has a record of 13-2-1 with 9 knockouts and is coming off a 4th round knockout victory over Dexter Mendoza on March 27 this year. Wandee who won the WBO Asia Pacific title by a unanimous twelve round decision over Brix Ray on August 11, 2009 is coming off a 1st round TKO over a fighter named Alek of France who was according to boxrec.com making his pro debut. Prior to that Wandee scored a 4th round TKO over Alwo Alhabsyi of Indonesia on March 12, 2010 and a 2nd round TKO over Rino Ukru also of Indonesia on January 22, 2010. The Thai challenger has a record of 63-11-1 with 15 knockouts.
