JULATON BACK AT WILDCARD GYM

PhilBoxing.com

LOS ANGELES -- Ana Julaton, the IBA and WBO world boxing champion, is back at the Wildcard Gym.

The Daly City super bantamweight was on a fast clip in winning her fights from the time she turned pro back in Nov 2007 with a victory over Margherita Valentini.

After her pro debut, she scored two consecutive wins, a split decision over Carly Batey and a unanimous decision over Clara de la Torre. In June of 2008 she scored her first KO over Salina Jordan at the Tachi Casino in Lemoore, CA.

On her next fight however, she was derailed by a hard hitting Johanna Mendez. Mendez held Julaton to a draw in a fight held at the Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas.

In August of that year, she failed on her first try for a title. Dominga Olivo won over Julaton via a close split decision to win the vacant WBC International Female super bamtamweight crown.

But the loss did not deter Julaton. Again, she fought for a title. This time against Kelsey Jeffries for the IBA Female Super bantamweight title. Julaton prevailed with a close majority decision.

Julaton?s handlers felt that Julaton should just continue forward and go for more titles as she appeared to be on the roll. They put her up against Donna Biggers for the vacant WBO Female Super bantamweight diadem.

Julaton did not disappoint. She beat the more experienced Biggers with a UD over 10 rounds to win her second world title.

With her success, the handlers decided to push it up a notch. She was put up against Lisa Brown, another much experienced fighter for the vacant WBA Female Super bantamweight title at the Casino Rama in Ontario, Canada.

Brown proved to be a formidable opponent and Julaton lost via a lopsided unanimous decision.

Some fight fans said that Julaton?s loss was tied up with the unfortunate string of defeats suffered by fighters coached and trained by Nonito Donaire Sr.

None of that of course can be proven. Donaire just had a string of bad luck and the other two defeats were partly because his fighters had ?problems with weight and discipline.?

Although Julaton and his handlers did not put her loss in Canada at the hands of Donaire, Sr., it was decided that perhaps Julaton needed a change of pace.

With that Julaton came back to her old digs, Freddie Roach? Wildcard Gym.

Will the change of pace and training venue prove to be better for Julaton?

Gym rats at the Wildcard certainly hope so and they are happy to see her back with the boys.

Freddie Roach did not waste anytime with her. He immediately put her up against the usual crew of women fighters that inhabits his gym.

Julaton is now going through the ?magic? of Freddie Roach. Some say, the few days she was at the Wildcard appeared to have re-energized her. But Roach, the ever demanding master of perfection wanted to see her sweat some more.

With the new regimen, Julaton should have no problem winning her next fight in Canada which is scheduled for June 30th against a still undetermined opponent.

?We do not know the opponent yet," Ana?s manager Angelo Reyes told us. ?But just the same, Ana is putting 100% so that she can be ready for anyone they put on her face,? he added.
