Rumble at Rama Rama XI: Lisa Delivers Bad News to Ana

PhilBoxing.com

Fight of the night goes to Women?s Boxing ? Rama, Canada. Rumble at Rama XI drew in a packed house with the much-publicized fight between Ana ?The Hurricane? Julaton and Lisa ?Bad News? Brown. As the ladies entered the ring, the hometown favorite brought four belts into her corner as challenger Ana brought in two. With a total of six belts inside this ring, the most that Casino Rama has had in at one time, the question begs, why isn?t this the main event?

From the starting rounds both fighters patiently circled each other showing respect and caution. The fighters took turns throwing light exchanges in the early rounds, but it was Lisa that was the more accurate and the harder puncher. Ana showed no sign of intimidation and landed strong left hooks and straight crosses as well. The fight was made of rallies that came in spurts and often looked like two rams clashing into each other?s will. Ana displayed good footwork and clean punches, while Lisa threw strong combinations that attacked on various angles and ranges that kept the challengers defense busy and open to some blistering right hooks and body punches.

It was early in the fifth round after another flurry of exchanges that the referee momentarily stopped the fight and called the doctor to ringside to monitor Ana?s condition after receiving a large gash over her left eye. It looked as though the doctor was going to stop the fight, but then with much debate from the fighter the round had resumed. With the possibility of the fight ending early, both fighters pushed the fight and exchanged hard blows and devastating combinations that demanded cheers from the crowd. Blood streamed out of Ana?s cut as the fifth drew a close the crowd roared with excitement.

Ana?s fighting style had changed from the sixth round on. Her punches proved less methodical and cautious to more direct and loaded. She was fighting out of desperation to resist a stoppage from her cut, but in the sixth she received another cut over her right eye. Lisa simply out worked her opponent with patient timing and strong attacks, she was relentless and kept the combo?s coming with no sign of fatigue or mercy. Ana showed amazing heart calling on her attacker and responding with a barrage of hooks and crosses. In between rounds, Ana?s coach Nonito feverishly worked her cuts with Ana smiling through swollen eyes and a blood filled top.

The final round was a true display of pugilism as both fighters swung and pounded on each other?s bodies, but it was Lisa that commanded the fight and the crowd. When the final bell rang, both fighters raised their hands and the crowd to their feet. With the judges scorecard 99 ? 92, 99-91 and 100 ? 90, Lisa won the W.B.A Woman?s Super Bantamweight belt and her fifth belt.

It was later discovered that Ana had refused to give up declining on her corners advice to stop the fight. She said, ?this fight is bigger than me winning, it?s about bringing up woman?s boxing. I can?t stop now.? She was begging for respect and attention to a corner of boxing not always highlighted. Both these woman were successful in that effort and drew many to believe that this was the fight of the night.

The fifth bout of the night was a title fight between heavyweights Greg Kielsa and Neven Pajkic. Greg was the present titleholder going into the fight, but it was Neven who looked as though he was the champion rather than the challenger. From the first to the final bell it was Neven?s hunger and constant punching that pushed back Kielsa to the ropes. Although Kielsa possessed cleaner, well timed left hooks and uppercuts, it was Neven?s aggression and inside fighting that hurt the Champion. From the sixth round on it was a dominant effort from Neven that earned him nods from the judges giving the scores in favor of the challenger 100 ? 90, 99 ? 91 and 99 ? 91, crowning Neven the new Canadian Heavyweight Champion.

The closing fight of the night was a title match for the vacant I.B.F Junior Featherweight Championship between local Steve Molitor and South African Takalani Ndlovu. Both fighters looked in peak condition both in body and technique. They both displayed respect for each other and had a quiet first round. The rate of punches from both fighters weren?t high in punch counts, but possessed stunning speed and power. Ndlovu pressured Molitor to the ropes and corners of the ring and continued to do so for the majority of the fight. The fighters exchanged constantly on the inside both landing hard to body and chin. Molitor found a home for his overhand right and left uppercut. Ndlovu was more the aggressor and kept constant pressure on Molitor. For every landed punch Ndlovu had a counter and was often times the last to answer. The crowed begged for more action as Molitor had a difficult time imposing a combination that would back off the South African. Although it was Ndlovu that possessed more ring generalship, aggression and accuracy, it was Molitor that had the judge?s score in his favor with a 116-112, 117-111 and 115-113 unanimous decision, becoming the new I.B.F Junior Featherweight Champion.
