PACQUIAO'S WAR WITH MAYWEATHER IN LIMBO

PhilBoxing.com

Manny Pacquiao, happy and comfortable in his current state of bliss having beaten the elite welterweights is awaiting word if his scheduled fight with the undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr is going through or not.

The March 13 proposed date has Las Vegas beating Dallas for the right to stage the contact-combat of the world’s best pound-for-pound fighters in a recognized weight division.

But first, let’s get the focus off Mayweather for now and look at Pacquiao’s obsessive drive to avenge his 2007 loss in politics.

When Manny ran in his original district ruled by the Antonino clan, he vowed to redeem his setback by running in his wife’s lone electoral zone of Sarangani -- a move opposed by the ruling clique composed of the Chiongbians, Dominguez’s and the Alcantaras.

All were one in convincing the boxing idol to seek election elsewhere with their backing once he contested the race in his old district where his former rival Darlene Antonino Custodio has served her final term.

Pacquiao’s backers reluctantly agreed to let him stay in his boxing corner but can engage in the political fray only when the 2013 political era starts.

Some of his supporters argue that running in a new voting zone is unwise especially when pitted against an entrenched group that controls the area.

Whereas Manny is assured of an easy sailing if he went back to his former locale with the required backing of the leaders in both voting areas supporting him.

Meanwhile, the final word on how Pacquiao’s face off with Mayweather will shape up has not been finalized what with various impositions by Money-May’s bloc seeking the needed edge in the negotiations.

The latest wrinkle to mar the on-going talks between Top Rank brass and Golden Boy Promotions Is Team Mayweather’s insistence of an Olympic type of blood testing which Team Pacquiao promptly dismissed.

This is a strange demand coming from the division's outlandish character, an obtrusion which is unprecedented. One that's bound to be dumped by the Nevada Athletic Commission if ever it is tabled for resolution.

Methinks the guy who loves calling himself Pretty Boy Floyd is trying to wiggle out from a fight with GenSan's Pacman.

What’s troubling Manny’s junta is not what Floyd's cabal wants for their pecuniary interests.

It is how to manage Pacquiao's tight political gig, topped by a rigorous training regimen for his dead-eye challenger.

That, boxing fans is causing concern for Pacquiao since Mayweather has vowed to maintain his unbeaten slate intact.

An unyielding task that demands great physical as well as mental effort for our hero.

An unwarranted agitation of the mind abetted by Money May’s intransigence is likewise causing some of our icon’s headaches these days.

But knowing Manny, he’ll fashion out ways of accomplishing his twin killings for 2010 that will silence his known critics and provoke even more arguments.

That is -- if ever it will come to pass.

Can someone come to the rescue of this match-up

which is certain to top the charts.

Or will it go the way of the Titanic.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. boxing fans.
