PENALOSA ARRIVES IN PUERTO RICO! By Dong Secuya PhilBoxing.com Tue, 21 Apr 2009  San Juan, Puerto Rico -- Two-time world champion Gerry Penalosa arrived here tonight ready to add another chapter to the storied Philippine boxing history when he tries to capture a third title in his third weight division when he clashes with Puerto Rican sensation the undefeated Juan Manuel Lopez at the Coliseo Ruben Rodriguez here on Saturday evening (Sunday morning in Manila). Penalosa took an American Airlines flight from Los Angeles Monday morning via Miami and was accompanied on his 11-hour trip by his wife Goody and their two children Jessie Boy and Jolan, his manager Billy Keanne, brothers/trainers Jonathan and Carl Penalosa, US-based supporter George Rufino and his daughter Grace, and this writer. Penalosa's coach Freddie Roach will arrive on Friday. Members of the Penalosa team, although a bit tired from the long trip, are in good spirits and are billeted at the posh Holiday Inn along the tourism belt at Isla Verde. A press conference is scheduled on Wednesday at El San Juan Hotel & Casino followed by the weighin on Friday before the expected fireworks explode on Saturday in this beautiful little island in the Caribbean.
