Former four-division world champion Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire Jr. who is now training in Cebu participated virtually at the official press conference for his coming world title fight against Japanese WBC Emeritus champion Seiya Tsutsumi, scheduled for December 17 in Tokyo, Japan.

The press conference happened on November 6, with Donaire joining via streaming live from his training camp at the Omega Boxing Gym in Mandaue City. MP Promotions President Sean Gibbons personally attended the event in Japan. Gibbons thru MP Promotions promotes the event together with Teiken Promotions.

Donaire considered it an honor for him to get the opportunity to fight Tsutsumi whom he referred to as one of the best in the division.

On the other hand, Tsutsumi had high respect for the Filipino Flash and regarded him as hard to beat and promised to train properly for the fight.

At age 43 next week, Donaire hopes to become the oldest bantamweight world champion in history, and will be fighting a 29-year-old champion in his prime.

Donaire owns a career record of 43 wins, 28 of them by knockout, with 8 losses, while Tsutsumi is still undefeated with a 12-0-3 record, including 8 wins by knockout.

Donaire has held multiple world championships in four weight classes, from flyweight to featherweight, and at age 38 became the oldest boxer in history to win a bantamweight world title and the first three-time champion in the bantamweight division.

Donaire was world champion in three consecutive decades, in the 2000s, 2010s and 2020s, and he was the sixth boxer to achieve such feat after Evander Holyfield, Manny Pacquiao, Bernard Hopkins, Erik Morales, and Floyd Mayweather Jr.

In his latest fight last June 14, 2025 at age 42 years, he won by technical decision over Andrés Campos in the ninth round at Casino Buenos Aires, Buenos Aires, Argentina and won the vacant WBA interim bantamweight title. The technical decision was unanimous when Donaire was cut from an accidental head clash.
