The Cavite Spartans stretched its winning streak in the Northern Division of the Professional Chess Association of the Philippines’s (PCAP) third conference online tournament dubbed as Super Grandmaster Wesley So Cup held at Chess.com Platform on Wednesday, October 25, 2023.

The Cavite Spartans are on a 2-game winning streak and are looking to make it four in a row vs the headstrong Mindoro Tamaraws and the nimble RCM Cebu Niños.

The Cavite Spartans first crushed the Mindoro Tamaraws, 16-5, then disposed of the RCM Cebu Niños , 13-8, to strengthen their hold of the top spot.

The entire team sans one player scored a full point in blitz (6-1) while wrapping up the match win in rapid (10-4) vs the Tamaraws.

Anatoly Pascua, IM Oleg Badmatsyrenov, Melizah Ruth Carreon, FM Carlos Edgardo Garma, Renie Malupa and Jayson Visca spearheaded Cavite with victories in blitz where they dominated Mindoro, 6-1.
AGM Nezil Merilles provided the full point for Mindoro after beating Antonio Almodal III.

Spartans showed strength in rapid as they walloped the Tamaraws,10-4.

Thanks for the heroic wins of Badmatsyrenov, FM Noel Dela Cruz, WIM Bernadette Galas, Amelito Reyes and Alexis Maribao.

"This match also featured the debut of coach Amelito Reyes with a clutch win with the white pieces in a Queen's Pawn Opening vs Cesar Cunanan," said famous chess blogger Richard Cornell Manzano.

For the 2nd match, the RCM Cebu Niños fought tooth and nail in rapid fashion (8-6 Spartans) but the 5-2 deficit in blitz proved insurmountable thus giving the Spartans a 13-8 win.

Badmatsyrenov, Pascua, Garma, Visca and Malupa won their respective matches in the blitz portion.

Dela Cruz, Badmatsyrenov and IM Barlo Nadera lifted Cavite into victories in the rapid play while Kevin Mirano and Maribao split the points.

The Cavite Spartans moved to 9-3 and a 2-game cushion vs the reeling Laguna PECA executives at 7-and the surging Manila Indios Bravos also at 7-5.

Pasig City King Pirates remain on top with a 12-0 slate followed by the San Juan Predators who hold a 10-2 win-loss record.

The Cavite Spartans will meet Negor Sagar Sports (Negros Oriental) and Davao Durianburg Stallions on October 28.
