Philippines Dominates Hong Kong in Under 18 World Softball Asia Cup

In a spectacular showcase of skill, the Philippines emerged victorious over their first match against Hong Kong on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, in the ongoing Under 18 World Softball Asia Cup held at the Fujian Province in China.
Young athletes from across Asia have gathered there to compete in this prestigious tournament to secure 1 of 3 spots for the WBSC Women's Softball World Cup Championship to be held in 2024.
The Philippine softball team delivered an amazing and stunning performance that allowed them to clinch a resounding victory against Hong Kong with a 7-0 points lead. The Filipinos kicked off the game with a 2 point lead during the first inning, followed by a tremendous 5 point edge on the 4th inning of the match.
ASAPHIL President Jean Henri Lhuillier was more than elated when receiving the news. He said that "This is the fruit of all the hard work and effort that the athletes and coaching staff have undergone over the last few months. I hope this will serve as the momentum we need to carry Team Philippines all the way to the finals and that we secure a ticket to the World Cup."
With this victory in the bag, the Filipinos now shift to the upcoming challenge that awaits. They are set to battle it out against their next formidable opponent: China, scheduled tomorrow, Wednesday, August 30, at 5:30 PM PH time.
The Asia Cup is set to be a qualifier tournament for the WBSC U-18 Women's Softball World Cup Championship to be held in 2024. The World Cup Championship tournament will follow a two-stage format beginning with the three groups. The Finals Cup is slated for 2025.
The players headed by Daniela Cabangon, are Che-Restcel Dela Cruz, Jeryll Duller, Ciarina Daniela Eder, Shein Espinosa, Trisha Karyl Hicayen, Angelica Jean Latriz, Rhea Manalo, Magdalene Nangan, Eileen Polvorido and Laira Dianne Silverio.
Head Coach is Ma. Lizviminda Jalandoni, accompanied by Assistant Coach Sheirylou Valenzuela, Pitching Coach Kaith Ezra Jalandoni, and Head of Delegation Dino Bernardo Lee.-Marlon Bernardino-
