By Lito delos Reyes PhilBoxing.com Fri, 30 Sep 2022
THE Saint John Paul II Patriots of Davao City came back so strong that it routed the Cor Jesu College of Digos City, 100-86 in their championship game of the 1st Sarante Cup Inter-Collegiate basketball tournament last September 25 in Magsaysay, Davao del Sur.
Jesson Duco topscored with 15 points while Patrick Salvo and John Lloyd Kinatagcan added 13 and 12 respectively. Kim Mundiz and Jericho Sauci both had 10 points.
The Patriots lost to the Red Lions, 97-86 in the elimination round.
"I told my players not to waste or squander the opportunity or chance given to us to reach the championship."
Delgado also told them that since this is the first invitational league after the pandemic, they need to get this championship,
The Patriots received P50,000 while the Red Lions earned P30,000. The Agro-Industrial Foundation Colleges Sailors took third place to P20,000 while the Philippine Women's College Patriots finished fourth to get P10,000. Trophies were also awarded.
"It's the start of our year, and they answered my call, and they played well both on offense and defense,” said Delgado.
Delgado hopes they can bring and continue this momentum and good start for the upcoming tournament, which is the ALDU Cup of the Davao del Norte Basketball League (DDNBL).
The DDBL is managed by SanMan Sports Foundation headed by DDNBL Commissioner and SanMan Sports Foundation Chairman Arman Sañano.
“I don't know about the line up yet. I will still finalize,” Delgado said.
