BANAL-HERRERA: SOMEONE?S ?O? HAS GOTTA GO

PhilBoxing.com

For AJ Banal and Caril Herrera, their fight on Sunday April 6 will determine the path of their boxing career for the next few years.

The magnitude of the April 6th fight could not be any bigger. It is the determinant of which way their respective career is headed in the next few years.

A defeat could mean that the losing fighter must return to the drawing board to determine the reason why his career has taken a sharp dive. The winner on the other hand, goes on to battle for the title next time around.

Banal and Herrera are both undefeated in their careers.

Banal sports a record of 16-0-1 (13KO). The only blemish in his record, albeit small was a draw with Sonny Saguing in November 2005 when he was barely beginning. However, after that he racked up 16 consecutive wins 13 of which spread between TKO?s and KO?s.

Herrera on the other hand parades a squeaky clean record of 21-0-0 (13KO).

Banal is the present WBO Asia Pacific Youth Super flyweight title holder. He won the belt via a 1 round KO of Esau Gaona in Cebu in September of 2007 and defended it successfully against Jovanny Soto at the Araneta Coliseum last December via a 9th round TKO.

Herrera who hails from Montevideo, Uruguay is the WBC Latino Super flyweight champion. He won the belt in July 2007 via UD over Wellington Vicente at Montevideo, Uruguay. In September 2007, he successfully defended the title via a 1 round KO of Nelson Monte.

On paper both fighters appear to be even. They have excellent records to show and they have the same determination to go further and win a tile.

In their battle on Sunday, a draw is far from happening as both Banal and Herrera pack a wholesome wallop in their fists. Herrera may have a slight edge in experience but Banal has his home crowd cheering him on.

So when Banal and Herrera cross path on Sunday, someone?s ?O? has gotta go!
