Eumir Felix Marcial, age 25 years, is from Lunzuran, Zamboanga City. As a beginner, he immediately won the gold medal in the ABAP National Junior Boxing Championships in 2010 and 2011.

He represented the Philippines at the 2015 Singapore, 2017 Kuala Lumpur and 2019 Manila Southeast Asian Games editions and at the 2011 AIBA Junior World Boxing Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan and won the gold medals in those tournaments.

At the 2011 AIBA Junior Championships, he won against Cengiz Onat of Turkey, 9-7 in the final bout to get the gold. It was just three years after he took up training for the first time.

In 2013, he won the gold medal at the Asian Youth Continental Championships in Subic Bay. He dominated Batzorig Otgonjargal of Mongolia, 29-12 in the final. The then 19-year-old Marcial was awarded the Best Asia Youth Boxer of the Year.

During the 2015 Asian Confederation Boxing Championships in Bangkok, Thailand, Marcial won the silver medal. In the preliminary rounds, he defeated Israil Madrimov of Uzbekistan (2-1) in the first round and won against Erkinbek Bolotbek Uulu of Kyrgyzstan (3-0) in the second round.

He won against Yasuhiro Suzuki of Japan (2-1) in the semi-final, Saylom Ardee of Thailand (2-1) in the quarter-final. But he lost to Daniyar Yeleussinov of Kazakhstan (3-0) in the final.

Marcial won gold in the 2020 Asia and Oceania Olympic boxing qualifiers in Amman, Jordan. Already assured of a spot in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Marcial outclassed Kazakhstan's Abilkhan Amankul via 3-2 split decision in their middleweight bout last March 2020.

He defeated Ashish Kumar of India (4-1) in the semifinal, Otgonbaatar Byamba-Erdene of Mongolia by Referee Stopped Contest in the quarterfinal, won against Kirra Ruston of Australia (5-0) in the round of 16.

Marcial defeated American Andrew Whitfield by unanimous decision in his professional debut last December 16, 2020. It was his first fight since the Asia and Oceania Olympic qualifiers in Amman, Jordan in March last year where he won the middleweight gold medal.

He fought with a four-round domination of Whitfield at the Shrine Exposition Center in Los Angeles, California. With Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach in his corner, Marcial convinced all three judges scoring it uniformly as a shutout, 40 to 36. Marcial threw 310 punches landing 120, while his opponent only landed 46 punches.

Veteran trainer Teddy Atlas believes WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury will defeat WBO, WBA, IBF, IBO champion Anthony Joshua. He thinks Fury can win the fight by knockout.

* * *

"I think Fury could stop him. I like AJ, he's a good fighter, he's got good talent, he's had a great comeback. I like all that," Atlas said on The Fight podcast. "I'm not gonna say he has a China chin, I'm not gonna say that. But, I'm gonna say Fury has a better chin."

The exhibition match between Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield on Memorial Day weekend in Miami is on the headlines again even if some events made the realization of the fight recently complicated.

* * *

Tyson posted on Instagram and denied a deal with Triller, the platform that promoted his fight with Roy Jones Jr. last year. “Just to be clear, there is no Tyson with Triller fight,” Tyson wrote. “I don’t know any Triller executives personally. I don’t have a deal with Triller or any head executive representing them for the next event."

* * *

"I am a partner in Legends Only League and my next event is with my league. I will never do another event or any business with Triller so anyone misrepresenting that they own the rights to my name or my next event isn’t true. I am not with or ever will be with Triller’s Fight Club," added Tyson.

* * *

Team Holyfield said Monday that Tyson rejected a $25 million guarantee, the same amount of money that made possible the conduct of Tyson’s comeback fight against Jones Jr.

The Los Angeles Lakers are playing without LeBron James indefinitely with a high ankle sprain, Anthony Davis with calf strain and tendinosis, out for at least another week and Marc Gasol missed two weeks because of health and safety protocols.

* * *

The Lakers are on a three-game losing streak dropping to 28-16 in the standings. Head coach, Frank Vogel, revealed his top priority which is to organize the Lakers offensively to return to the winning track. “Getting us organized offensively is probably my top priority right now,” Vogel said, via Spectrum Sportsnet.
