A Victory By Glenn Donaire Will Line Him Up Against Solis By Ed de la Vega, DDS PhilBoxing.com Thu, 21 Feb 2008 Los Angeles, CA -- We just got word from the Team Donaire who are now in Reno, Nevada informing us of a very good news. Nonito Donaire Sr himself informed us that Cameron Dunkin has forged an agreement with the Ulises Solis camp that will allow Solis to next defend his crown against Glenn Donaire assuming that both Solis and Donaire hurdle their respective forthcoming fights. Donaire is set to trade leathers with Jose Albuquerque Friday night at the Silver Legacy Casino Resort in Reno. The fight with the former Brazilian Olympian is actually a rematch of the fight they had at the Chumash Casino Resoprt at Sta Ynes, California back in 2006. That fight ended on a draw with Donaire claiming that he should have gotten the victory on account of his better showing. Solis, on the other hand, will have his hands full defending his crown against a Filipino fighter, Juanito Rubillar. The fight will be a co-main event fitting Nonito Donaire against Hussein Hussein for the IBF flyweight title. The double championship will happen in Dubai, UAE on April 18, 2008. If the proposed title fight between Glenn Donaire and Ulises Solis happens, Donaire will be the third Filipino to attempt to grab the title of Solis. Rodel Mayol tried in April 2007 and lost via a 6 round TKO. Then Bert Batawang did the same in December 2007. He too lost via TKO but he lasted three more rounds than Mayol. They said that ?three is a charm?? with that it is our hope that Glenn Donaire on the third try for a Filipino will beat Solis and grab the IBF light flyweight title. That would make the Donaire brothers concurrent champions just like the Penalosa brothers, Dodie Boy and Gerry. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Ed de la Vega, DDS. |
