NBA --- Tatum lifts Celtics over Magic, 116-100 By Oliver Iglesias PhilBoxing.com Fri, 07 Feb 2020 BOSTON – Jayson Tatum is showing everyone he deserves an All-Star spot this year. The first-time All-Star exploded with 33 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists to lead Boston over Evan Fournier and the Magic 116-100 on Wednesday at the TD Garden. With 6:53 remaining in the fourth quarter, Tatum swished a three-pointer to give the Celtics a 99-91 lead. For the next Boston play after a timeout, Tatum initiated a fast break and fed Jaylen Brown for a one-handed hammer over Orlando’s Michael Carter-Williams for a double-digit lead. He made another triple with 1:46 left in the game to make it 111-98 and put the game in the bag. At the post-game presser, he was asked about the difference for this season versus the previous one especially on his approach in taking over the final stretches of certain games. “Confidence has a lot to do with it,” Tatum said. “Just trying to get better in all aspects of my game. Each year, each summer, I try to be a better version of myself.” Boston played short-handed with Kemba Walker (sore left knee), Marcus Smart (right quad contusion), Robert Williams (left hip edema) and Daniel Theis (right ankle sprain) sitting out, yet the team persevered for the win. Three other Celtics finished in double figures with small forward Gordon Hayward adding 23 points and 7 assists anchored on 10-for-16 shooting from the field, Brown chipping in 18 points and 5 boards and power forward Grant Williams contributing 13 markers and 6 rebounds. Magic guard Evan Fournier and forward Aaron Gordon paced the Magic with 26 and 23 points, respectively, as Orlando drops its record to 22-29. Boston went 46-for-86 for 53.5% clip while Orlando had 32-for-75 for 42.7% field goal conversion. The Celtics improved their record to 35-15 and will take on Trae Young and the Hawks next this February 7. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Oliver Iglesias. |
