Jerwin Ancajas to grace Larry Itliong Day at Carson, California By Ed de la Vega, DDS PhilBoxing.com Tue, 22 Oct 2019  Arrangement had been made for IBF junior bantamweight world titleholder, Jerwin Ancajas (31-1-2, 21KO) to grace the 10th Larry Itliong Day Celebration on Sunday, October 27, 2019 at the Veterans Park at Carson, CA. The huge Filipino Celebrations honors fame Filipino farm labor organizer, Larry Dulay Itliong. Larry Dulay Itliong (25 October 1913 – 8 February 1977), was a Filipino American labor organizer. He organized West Coast agricultural workers starting in the 1930s, and rose to national prominence in 1965, when he, Philip Vera Cruz, Benjamin Gines and Pete Velasco, walked off the farms of area table-grape growers, demanding wages equal to the federal minimum wage, that became known as the Delano grape strike. He has been described as "one of the fathers of the West Coast labor movement.” (Wikipedia) The Pangasinan native was known as “Seven Fingers” due to an accident he suffered while working at a cannery in Alaska. Itliong led, together with Mexican-American hero Cesar Chavez, to the picket lines that made Chavez a legend in the farming industry, particularly in the West Coast. This eventually led to the formation of the National Farm Workers Union, and later the famed United Farm Workers Union. Ancajas and his Coach and manager, Joven Jimenez arrived in Los Angeles on Friday night (Saturday in the Philippines). Sean Gibbons the President of the Manny Pacquiao Promotions and sports photographer Jayson Otamias, welcomed Team Ancajas. Ancajas stakes the International Boxing Federation (IBF) super-flyweight crown against Jonathan Rodriguez (21-1-0, 15KO) of Mexico on Nov. 2 at the Dignity Health Sports Center in Carson, CA. The Ancajas-Rodriguez fight will serve as the co-feature to the Miguel Berchelt’s WBC Super featherweight title defense against Jason Sosa. Both fights will be shown live on ESPN and ESPN Deportes starting at 7pm ET/4pmPT. Bob Arum’s Top Rank Promotions is the lead promoter for the event.
