"MANNY IS GOING TO SHOOT THE WORKS!" - World-Famous Freddie Roach PhilBoxing.com Tue, 15 Jan 2019 HOLLYWOOD, CALIF. (January 14, 2019) -- Today, boxer laureate and Filipino national treasure Senator Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao (60-7-2, 39 KOs), boxing?s only eight-division world champion, woke up at dawn for his final day of training camp and greeted the opening day of another fight week for the 70th time, with 26 of them at the world championship level. This Saturday, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, the defending WBA welterweight champion will end his 26-month hiatus from a U.S. boxing ring and rumble with Cincinnati?s Adrien "The Problem" Broner (33-3-1, 24 KOs), an athlete 11 years his junior who has held world titles in four different weight classes. Presented by Premier Boxing Champions, the Pacquiao vs. Broner WBA welterweight world championship event will be produced and distributed live by SHOWTIME PPV? beginning at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT. "On Saturday night, Manny will prove that life begins at 40. It's not just his age, but also the number of times he will have won a fight by knockout. I'm definitely playing that number in Las Vegas," said Hall of Fame trainer world-famous Freddie Roach. "Manny's power, strength speed, and smarts are still at an ultra elite level. Our only concern this past week has been overtraining. We don't want him to peak too soon. His work ethic in the gym is unparalleled. He is totally focused on destroying Broner. No one in boxing will outwork Manny in the ring. He's boxing's version of Nolan Ryan. Ryan was throwing no hitters and leading the league in strikeouts after age 40. Manny still throws the heat like he did in his 20s and 30s. "Even at 29, Broner is too old to keep blowing up in weight between fights. It's taken a toll on his body and his psychology," Roach continued. "He should be fighting at 135 or 140 pounds, but he lacks discipline. It's obvious to me he has no confidence in his conditioning. There is no way he is going to go for it against Manny because he's afraid he'll run out of gas too early in the fight. Broner may fight to survive and try to lay traps for Manny to come in so he can counterpunch Manny, but we're prepared for that. Manny still plays basketball for up to four hours at a time. There is no way Broner will be able to keep up with Manny's conditioning and stamina. Throughout training camp Manny has said he wants the knockout. I love hearing him say that. He's never said that before. Manny is going to shoot the works on Saturday night. Look for a vintage performance. A heroic performance." ******************************* The BWAA's reigning Fighter of the Decade and three-time Fighter of the Year, Pacquiao, considered an international icon, hails from Sarangani Province in the Philippines. He is the only sitting Congressman and Senator to win a world title. After serving two terms as Congressman, Pacquiao was elected to a Philippine Senate seat in May 2016, capturing over 16 million votes nationally. Pacquiao?s boxing resume features victories over at least seven current and future Hall of Famers, including Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton, Marco Antonio Barrera, Erik Morales, Miguel Cotto, Shane Mosley, and Juan Manuel Marquez. In his last fight, with Philippine President Rodrigo R. Duterte and Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad in attendance (the first time two heads of state attended a championship boxing event), Pacquaio regained the welterweight title for a fourth time with a vintage performance on July 15 at Axiata Arena in Kuala Lampur, Malaysia, by knocking out defending WBA champion Lucas Matthysse in the seventh round. Promoted by MP Promotions, Mayweather Promotions and TGB Promotions in association with About Billions Promotions, remaining tickets to the Pacquiao vs. Broner welterweight world championship event are priced from at $100, not including applicable service charges, and can be purchased online through AXS.com, charge by phone at 866-740-7711 or in person at any MGM Resorts International box office.
