By Lito delos Reyes PhilBoxing.com Thu, 25 Apr 2024

REGIE “Filipino Phenom” Suganob will defend his World Boxing Organization [WBO] Global light flyweight title against Japanese Kai Ishizawa on April 30 at the Holy Name University Gym in Tagbilaran City.
The 26-year-old Suganob had taken two sparring partners from Cotabato – Reymark Tagacanao and Richard Garde.
Garde, 26, is currently the Philippine Boxing Federation minimumweight champion with a record of 9 wins, 2 loses and with 8 knockouts.
Suganob last fought against Venezuela’s Ronald Chacon, who he beat by a unanimous decision last November 4, 2023 at the Bohol Wisdom School Gym in Tagbilaran.
Suganob of Dauis, Bohol is under PMI Bohol Boxing Stable of lawyer Floriezyl Echavez Podot.
Suganob, who has 14 wins, one loss and four knockouts, is coached by Paul Gentallan and Edsel Burlas.
Regarding his Japanese opponent: “He is good, I don't take any chances because he has strength based on his knockout percentage”.
Ishizawa, on the other hand, has 11 wins, 3 loses and 10 knockouts.
In his bout, Ishizawa lost to Vince Paras of General Santos City by a split decision last October 12, 2023 at Ariake Arena in Koto-Ku, Japan.
But the 27-year-old Ishizawa earlier won against Bukidnon’s Jaysever Abcede by a knockout in the 5th round last June 12, 2023 at Korakuen Hall, Tokyo.
