Pacquiao to reach 100% in shape in a week's time - Buboy By Eddie Alinea PhilBoxing.com Fri, 28 Dec 2018 After 24 rounds of sparring and at least 20 rounds working with the mitts plus no less than three hours of roadwork, World Boxing Association welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao ends his first week at the Los Angeles training camp on Saturday (Sunday in Manila). Pacquiao, who arrived in this, the world?s entertainment capital, on Saturday last week with his team, skirmished with three sparring mates for eight rounds? lightweight George Kambosos Jr. (three rounds), super-featherweight Lydell Rhodes (three rounds) and welterweight Arnold Gonzales (two (rounds) ? Tuesday and Thursday and scheduled to box anew for another eight by the end of the week. The frequency in sparring could be increased to 10 rounds or even 12 depending on how Manny?s condition in his first week in L.A., according to trainer Buboy Fernandez. ?No need to rush him. We?ve still plenty of time left, three weeks pa, para mag-train, Luckily for us, Manny responded well sa camp natin sa Manila despite several distractions brought about by his job as a senator kaya mas madali na ang trabaho natin dito,? And how does he and members of his training team assessed, made up also of strength and conditioning coach Justin Fortune and assistant trainers Nonoy Neri and Roger ?Haplas? So, konti na lang at nasa tip-top shape na si Manny,? Buboy said. ?Kukunin na namin yung kakulangan ng 100 percent dito sa susunod na linggo. Or the latest probably, two weeks from now para pa-relax-relax na lang tayo bago dumating ang laban,? Buboy assured. And to think that Pacquiao even cancelled Monday?s first training session at the Wild Card Gym in two years to give himself time to recover from jet lag and acclimatize to California?s cold weather. The same morning, though, the fighting senator did his roadwork at his favorite Griffith Park, a mountainous running circuit he?s been using for years for muscle strengthening. At the very early dawn on Thursday and Friday, he re-acquainted himself with the Pan Pacific Plaza near his Plymouth Blvd. residence. Former chief trainer, now consultant, Freddie Roach, handled the mitts job with Pacquiao on Wednesday before handing it over to Buboy on Friday. The only man to win world championships in eight weight divisions spent his first three weeks of preparedness at the Elorde Boxing Gym in Pasay City and at the Pacman Wild Card Gym in General Santos City.
