Pacquiao's build up regimen shifts to muscle-building

PhilBoxing.com

With 80 per cent of his build up requirements in place after two weeks in camp, World Boxing Association welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao?s training program shifts to building muscle and stamina.

Pacquiao, who will celebrate his 40th birthday on December 17, stake his 147-pound plum against American challenger Adrien Broner on January 19 next year at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas.

Pacquiao and his training team move to General Santos City sometime this week from Manila for the second stop of the four-city preparedness tour will stay.

?Eighty per cent of the program, yung boxing side, has been set up, so, punta na tayo sa plyometric workout to build muscle power,? chief Buboy Fernandez told said Saturday after completing a two-week camp at the Elorde Boxing Gym.

The senate goes on Christmas recess starting December 13 opening the door to transfer the camp as planned to GenSan before the champ?s entourage flies to Los Angeles in California for the three-week third leg of the training scheme.

Manny Pacquiao poses with K-Pop Chick Angel when the four-member Korean singing group visited Pacquiao last Friday, Dec. 7, at the Elorde Gym in Pasay City.

A one week tapering off period will be in Las Vegas a week before the title showdown.

Another important phase of the fine-tuning program expected to be implemented is the roadwork featuring the mountain-climbing run along the treacherous 950-feet above sea level highway of Maasim in nearby Sarangani Province.

This, however, according to conditioning coach Justin Fortune, depends on whether the eight division belt-owner feels he still needs this very rigorous aspect of stamina-building.

?As of today, Manny?s already in shape. His physical condition is okay. But as we have been saying, Manny knows if everything is working well or not,? Fortune said.

The Manila camp actually lowers its curtain on December 13 with the routine roadwork at the flat Forbes Park circuit along Pacquiao?s place of residence in Makati City, sparring and other gym activities.

After a fortnight in the camp, Pacquiao has so far sparred a total 14 rounds all with Greek-Australian lightweight dance mate George Kambosos Jr., besides working the mitts no less than 40 rounds.

A minor leg cramp cut short Saturday?s work out to a limited to the five-round skirmish.

Pacquiao himself, Buboy and Fortune dismissed he incident as nothing. ?No problem,? Pacquiao said. ?I only ran out of supplemental vitamin. Naubos na pala during last fight (against Lucas Matthysse).?
