Pacquiao vs Matthysse live fight will be showcased worldwide in more than 200 territories

13 July (Singapore) - Havas Sports & Entertainment, a division of Havas Media Asia Pacific, announced today its agreement with Astro Malaysia to broadcast the highly anticipated ‘Fight of Champions’ World Boxing Association (WBA) Welterweight Championship in Malaysia.

The event, featuring Manny Pacquiao and Lucas Matthysse, will be beamed live on 15 July at 8 a.m. from the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur (8 p.m. EST on July 14 in the US), and is fast shaping to become a global blockbuster with broadcast deals secured in more than 200 territories.

Despite the FIFA World Cup 2018 coming to a conclusion this weekend, the highly anticipated bout has received robust response from broadcasters across the Asia Pacific, Latin America, USA, Europe, Africa, MENA and the Caribbean. Havas Sports & Entertainment was appointed by fight promoters MP Promotions and Events as the International Media Rights and Commercial Partner.

CK Lee, Astro’s Head of Sports Business, said: “Astro Arena has been the home of sports in Malaysia and we’re proud for this rare opportunity to showcase this once-in-a-lifetime event with boxing legend Manny Pacquiao across our sports platforms, including our sports digital brand Stadium Astro. We’re pleased to partner Havas Sports & Entertainment and Manny Pacquiao’s consortium to make this event available to Malaysian fans.”

Said Melvin Lim, CEO of Havas Sports & Entertainment, APAC: “Astro’s Pay-TV reach in Malaysia and its world-class production capabilities is second-to-none. We are delighted to work with them to ensure the ‘Fight of Champions’ will be available to as many boxing fans in the country and around the world through its satellite uplink to global broadcasting partners. We are also heartened by the response from broadcasters and sponsors, especially in Asia. Manny Pacquiao is a living legend and the star quality of this fight was a major driver across international markets, and we’re pleased boxing fans across the world will get to see his amazing bout against Matthysse.”

Said MP Promotions and Events’ Commercial Head, Arnold Vegafria, “Havas Media Asia Pacific has been an great partner and collaborator, securing important distribution partnerships globally to promote this world-class boxing event. We’re poised to make many commercial and broadcast breakthroughs with this event and we’re proud to have contributed to Malaysia’s international tourism goals in major territories worldwide.”

Havas Sports & Entertainment secured a partnership deal for the ‘Fight of Champions’ with Petron Corporation, the Philippines’ largest oil refining and marketing company, set to feature prominently across premium advertising and sponsorship opportunities before and during the event.

Said Sherman Tan, Managing Director of Havas Sports & Entertainment, APAC: "Petron makes a perfect sponsor of this fight having its origins in the Philippines as the biggest petro-chemical corporation and now making strong inroads into Malaysia where they are a strong challenger brand. Associating with the ‘Fight of Champions’ provides the perfect platform to build its prominence in Malaysia while entrenching its support for the Philippines' favourite boxing son."
