CANELO VS. GOLOVKIN THE FIGHT FOR SUPREMACY; ALVAREZ WANTS MAYWEATHER NEXT

PhilBoxing.com

Saul "Canelo" Alvarez gives Gennady "GGG" Golovkin a warning that he will show him how a true Mexican fights, and he promised to reign as king of the middleweight division. Both fighters tipped the scales at 160 pounds. Canelo told BoxNation that he is ready to fight and will grab the Kazakh middleweight king?s WBC, WBA, IBF and IBO world titles.

?I?m ready to go! The talking has been done, we have weighed-in and now it is about getting in the ring and fighting. I?m ready to show how a true Mexican fights,? said Canelo. ?I am going to give the fans a special fight ? a real fight. I am ready for him and whatever he comes with. If he wants to stand toe-to-toe I will not back down. However he wants to fight I am ready. This is the fight boxing wanted and now it is here. I am ready to reign at the top of the middleweight division for a long time,? Canelo told BoxNation.

The 35-year-old Golovkin will climb the ring a physically bigger man, being a natural middleweight, but Canelo has soared high as a boxing great by becoming a two-weight world champion. He shrugged off threats that Canelo will knock him out, GGG replied he has been a long time champion and said he still has a lot of fighting years left.

?Let?s see on Saturday if he is going to knock me out. I?ve been a champion a long time,? said Golovkin. ?In boxing every day is difficult and dangerous. Right now I feel great. Everything?s good. My family and my team support me. I feel very comfortable. I want to box for five years more ? maybe until 40,? he added.

The most anticipated match between two boxing greats will happen during the Mexican Independence Day holiday this weekend, fans have been flocking Las Vegas from different places to witness a fight that Golovkin has promised will produce fireworks when they collide at the sold-out T-Mobile Arena. ?This is our Mexican Independence Day holiday weekend gift to boxing and to boxing fans. The fans have been asking for this fight for years. We are going to give a great battle,? Golovkin told BoxNation.

This will be the first time Golovkin will fight in Las Vegas, the boxing and entertainment capital of the world. In the US, he fought in New York, California and Connecticut so far. ?I am very excited to be finally fighting in Las Vegas, but I am more excited that it is against Canelo. The energy will be off the charts," added GGG. "Let me repeat ? this is a fight boxing can be proud of."

Golovkin (37-0, 33 KOs) has made 18 straight defenses in the middleweight division and is striving to get closer to the record held by Bernard Hopkins, who has 20 middleweight title defenses between 1994 and 2005. Alvarez (49-1-1, 34 KOs) will now be fighting as a full-fledged 160-pound middleweight after his lopsided unanimous decision victory over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on May 6. Alvarez has not tasted defeat since losing a majority decision against Floyd Mayweather in 2013.

Golden Boy Promotions boss Oscar de la Hoya said the Canelo-GGG fight will be his gold medal as a promoter. "When I started boxing, the biggest moment of my career was on top of that podium winning the Olympic gold medal, by far," De La Hoya was quoted by ESPN. "World titles come and go, but winning the gold medal was bigger. And now, as a promoter, I strongly feel that this might not be the pinnacle because I'm positive there will be bigger events I'm going to be part of, but this is what it's all about. This is my gold medal as a promoter because this is exactly what boxing needs right now. Boxing needs this fight and I'm glad I was able to make it."

Saul Canelo Alvarez shows interest in fighting retired undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a rematch if he wins against middleweight champion Gennady ?GGG? Golovkin Saturday night at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. ?It would be good," Canelo told the mirror.co.uk about his interest to face Mayweather again. "That is a thorn I have and I would like to take that thorn out."

Canelo said he took his first defeat as an experience. "But it is not an obsession. If it happens, great. If it doesn?t, that is OK, too. Was I too young? Most definitely. It showed but what I won out of that was the experience. I learned a lot from that fight. I don?t take it today as a defeat, I take it as an experience. I learned a lot in that fight,? added the Mexican boxing icon.

Canelo has been improving a lot since his defeat to Mayweather, and the weight difference between the two fighters might be a big obstacle to a rematch. Mayweather fought at 154 lbs, but Canelo is now a big middleweight, and his heft might balloon to 180 plus come fight night with GGG. That could be a very big weight difference.

Mayweather broke Rocky Marciano's record with his 50th win over Conor McGregor, where Floyd pocketed over $300 million. For him to be enticed to come back and face Canelo, the same amount should be involved. But fighting Alvarez would be a great danger for Mayweather now than in 2013, if Canelo wins against Golovkin. The former pound-for-pound king of the world has remarkably slowed down. But when money talks everybody listens.
