UFC BEGINS SINGAPORE FIGHT WEEK WITH INAUGURAL IMMAF ASIAN OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS PhilBoxing.com Mon, 12 Jun 2017 SINGAPORE - UFC?, home of the world?s MMA elite will begin its Singapore fight week with the inaugural International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) Asian Open Championships. Taking place at the Marina Bay Sands from June 13-16, the 2017 IMMAF Asian Open Championships will see 66 amateur fighters from 16 countries vie for the inaugural title, and take a step closer to realizing their professional MMA dream. The Championship is made possible by the strong relationship and close synergies between IMMAF and UFC, building on a successful 2016 IMMAF World Championships during the 5th Annual UFC International Fight Week in Las Vegas last year. Commenting on the event, UFC Senior Vice President of International and Content, Joe Carr, said ?IMMAF?s first Asian Open Championships is a demonstration of UFC?s commitment in assisting the development of MMA in the region,? During a trip to Singapore two weeks ago, No. 6 strawweight Michelle ?The Karate Hottie? Waterson, took time to share tips with Singaporean fighters Lim Zhen Teng and Charles Lew, both of whom will participate in the inaugural IMMAF Asian Open Championships 2017. Commenting on the experience, Lim said ?It was a great opportunity to learn from a top fighter like Michelle. Talking to her gave us valuable insight into what it takes to turn pro. I am looking forward to testing myself against the best in the region. I have prepared well for this, and a great performance will give me confidence and put me one step closer to my dream of representing Singapore in the UFC in the future?. |
