MILWAUKEE -- The Washington Wizards cranked up their defense and held on to a big lead this time to capture Game 3 with a technical foul-infested 116-89 victory over the Boston Celtics on Thursday night at the Verizon Center.
John Wall finished with 24 points and 8 assists but he didn't have to do it all in Game 3 as his Wizards teammates provided ample support. Otto Porter registered 19 and 8 boards while Marcin Gortat added 13 points and 16 rebounds. Markieff Morris and Bradley Beal combined for 21.
Wiz shot 46.7 percent from the field and 32 percent from long distance.
After scoring 53 points in Game 2, Isaiah Thomas was held to a mere 13 points, hitting only 3-of-8 field goals while going 0-for-2 from 3-point range. With Thomas held at bay, Al Horford led the Celtics with 16 points.
It was a hotly-contested, very physical Game 3 that saw eight technical fouls called and three players getting ejected. "I guess that's playoffs basketball. We don't like them. They don't like us," Thomas told the Associated Press.
Game 4 returns to the Verizon Center on Sunday afternoon (Monday morning in Manila).
