MILWAUKEE -- On the day his recently departed baby sister would have turned 23, Isaiah Thomas played inspired basketball on Tuesday night and burned the Washington Wizards with 53 points as the Boston Celtics edged the Washington Wizards in overtime 129-119.
The Game 2 triumph at a sold-out TD Garden handed the Celtics a commanding 2-0 lead in this best-of-7 Eastern Conference semifinals. Game 3 is Thursday night (Friday AM in Manila) at the Verizon Center in Washington.
Just like Game 1, the Celtics came from behind on this one, trailing 42-29 after one quarter and 89-84 after three quarters. But thanks to Thomas' heroics, the Celtics outscored Washington 45-30 in the fourth quarter and overtime.
Thomas got enough help from his teammates as Al Horford registered 15 points and 12 rebounds while Avery Bradley and Jae Crowder added 14 apiece. Terry Rozier scored 12 off the bench.
John Wall was phenomenal for the Wizards with 40 points and 13 assists. Bradley Beal, on the other hand, missed 11 of 15 field goals for 14 points. Markieff Morris and Marcin Gortat, Washington's bigs, combined for 30 points and 16 boards.
The Wiz shot a high 46.5 percent from the field, but they made only 10 of 34 triples and committed 17 turnovers.
