NIETES TOTALLY DOMINATES SOSA AND STARTS INVADING THE FLYWEIGHT RANKS SUCCESSFULLY
By Maloney L. Samaco PhilBoxing.com Sun, 25 Sep 2016

It was total domination right from the opening bell to end of round 12. Former minimumweight and lightflyweight champion Donnie "Ahas" Nietes sent a clear message that he has started invading the flyweight ranks and the win against former lightflyweight titlist Edgar Sosa was so convincing that all three judges scored all 12 rounds in favor of the ALA Gym top fighter.
Fireworks began exploding in the second round as Nietes connects an uppercut to the head the shook the Mexican. Nietes kept finding the range in the third and hurt Sosa in the fourth as "Ahas" wobbled the Mexican until the bell saved him.
In the middle rounds Sosa was able to hit Nietes, but the Filipino ex-world champ would retaliate with combinations that outpunched and outscored the Mexican. Sosa nearly dropped in the tenth canto, but a grizzled veteran that he is, he was able to hold on till the 12th to remain on his feet.
The three judges all scored 120-108. They were all convinced the fangs of the Snake has totally bitten and inflicted venom on his opponent. Sosa simply could not find the right combination to counter Nietes' flurry in all 12 rounds.
Nietes sent his signal that he has started his conquest of the flyweight division. The IBF champion is John Riel Casimero, whom Filipinos would not want to engage with Nietes.
The WBA champion is Kazuto Ioka of Japan. The WBC titlist is Nicaraguan Rom?n "Chocolatito" Gonz?lez but he has already won the WBC superflyweight title from Carlos Cuadras of Mexico. Juan Francisco Estrada of Mexico has vacated the WBO throne to undergo a right hand surgery.
