MARK MAGSAYO EYES WBO CHAMP OSCAR VALDEZ PhilBoxing.com Thu, 08 Sep 2016 WBO #9 Featherweight Mark ?Magnifico? Magsayo says he wants to fight WBO World Featherweight champion Oscar Valdez, who is undefeated with 18 KO wins out of 20, hopefully in the near future. Equally undefeated and considered one of the most promising Filipino young fighters in his division, Magsayo will once again take his skills to the ring and defend his WBO International title on September 24. Coming off from a spectacular win against former world challenger Chris ?The Hitman? Avalos last April under the Donaire-Bedak fight, Magsayo added the more experienced fighter to his list of KO victories and once again showed boxing fans around the world he has what it takes to bring his career a notch higher. However pleased his promoter was with the turnout, ALA Promotions President and CEO Michael Aldeguer immediately released a statement after the fight to say, ?he (Magsayo) has not accomplished anything yet and has a long way to go?. As the media and fans took notice of ?the next Manny Pacquiao?, Aldeguer responded saying it is embarrassing to compare the young prospect to the Filipino great. It was with this assessment that Magsayo was sent to the US last May to train at the Wildcard Gym in LA and work on his next fight. Magsayo owns up to his lack of defense, which caused him the first knockdown in his career, both amateur and professional. He also shares he has learned his lesson and is very motivated by his most recent fight. In fact, he hasn?t stopped training since May. In an interview, Mark disclosed he was surprised when he saw his name among WBO?s top 10 rankings and, not looking past his September defense against Mexican Ruben Garcia, revealed he is excited with the development and looks forward to being able to fight with bigger names in his division, with no less than the world champion Valdez as his top pick. ?I feel so happy to be considered #9 in the WBO rankings, I feel as if I could fight anyone they choose for me. With the training and mindset I have now, I believe I could take on anyone, just as long as I train for it and make sure I come prepared.? Magsayo is the featured co-main event under the Nietes-Sosa Flyweight championship at the Stubhub Center, Carson, CA. This event, Philippines vs Mexico, is ALA Promotions International?s third US promotion, in partnership with the Philippines? biggest TV network, ABS-CBN and TFC (The Filipino Channel). |
