Mepranum to fight for WBC world title

PhilBoxing.com

FILIPINO boxer Richie ?Magnum? Mepranum of Sarangani Province gets another world title-crack as he fights undefeated Mexican Carlos ?Principe? Cuadras for the World Boxing Council (WBC) world super flyweight crown on April 23 in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico.

The 29-year old Mepranum will be accompanied by his trainer Benny dela Pena and Karrol Lopez, daughter of boxing manager Sarangani Mayor Jojo Lopez.

?This is another good chance for Richie to win a world title,? said boxing matchmaker Ronald Jerez of Manila.

The southpaw, who has a record 31 wins, 4 loses, 1 draw, 8 KOs previously scored a technical knockout win against Marjhun Tabamo to win the vacant World Boxing Union (WBU) super flyweight title last November 14 at the Maasim gym in Sarangani Province.

Cuadras (34W-0L -1D-26KOs) previously successfully defended his crown via unanimous decision win over Japanese Koko Eto last November 28 at the Xebio Arena in Sendai, Miyagi, Japan.

It was Cuadras? fifth title-defense of the crown he won against Srisaket Sor Rungvisai of Thailand by a technical decision last May 31 in Mexico.

He first retained it by a technical decision over Jose Salgado on September 20, 2014 in Sinaloa, Mexico. He later defended it successfully against Marvin Mabait by TKO in USA on Nov. 13, 2014; Luis Concepcion by UD in Mexico last April 4, 2015; and Dixon Flores by TKO in Mexico last October 15, 2015.

Mepranum fought but lost for the WBA Super World flyweight and WBO World flyweight title by a TKO from the hands of Juan Francisco Estrada last April 26, 2014 in Mexico.

Mepranum also lost by a TKO to another Mexican Julio Cesar Miranda in Mexico last June 12, 2010 for the vacant WBO World flyweight title.

But Mepranum bounced back from losing to Miranda by a split decision against Anthony Villareal in the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao-Joshua Clottey fight held Nov. 13, 2010 at the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, USA.

Mepranum followed it up with two straight wins all by UDs. He outclassed Valentin Leon in Mexico on Sept. 24, 2011 then immediately fought but still outpointed Rigoberto Casillas in California, USA on October 27, 2011. ? LITO DELOS REYES
