NBA -- King James, Cavs fall to Hornets, 106-97 By Eric Biasbas PhilBoxing.com Fri, 05 Feb 2016 CHARLOTTE --- The Eastern Conference leader Cleveland Cavaliers visited Charlotte riding high on a five game winning streak and were heavily favored to win over the home team. The Hornets however had other plans. With a balanced and cohesive team play, Charlotte outplayed and upset Cleveland, 106-97 in front of a sold out crowd at the Time Warner Cable Arena. Cody Zeller (shoulder), Jeremy Lamb (Toe) and Nic Batum (toe) returned to action but the Hornets were without leading scorer Kemba Walker (left knee). Jeremy Lin ably took his spot in the starting line-up and scored 24 points (7-of-13 FG) including four crucial points in the last two minutes to secure the victory. He also tallied 8 assists and 5 rebounds. The Cavs led by 58-49 at halftime but came out flat in the third quarter. They were outscored 33-17 as they only converted 7 of 23 field goal attempts. The Hornets meanwhile made 12 of 19 shots to turn a 9 point deficit into an 82-75 lead entering the fourth period. The Cavs are now 5-2 under new coach Tyronn Lue. "That's the third time in a row where we struggled to come out in the third quarter, getting off to slow starts. We have to do something to adjust that situation", he said. The 'King,' Lebron James, who finished with 23 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists remarked, "We're doing a good job on playing great basketball in the first half but our third quarters are pretty awful right now. "We've got to figure that out." The Hornets continued to be aggressive play in the final period and built a 15 point lead with five minutes remaining. The Cavs led by Kyrie Irving and James tried to rally but could not get any closer than 6 points. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist had two crucial offensive rebounds and a jumper to help stave off the Cavs. The Hornets outmuscled the Cavs resulting in a big rebounding advantage, 49-28 including 11-3 offensive rebounds. Gilchrist finished with 11 points and 13 rebounds, Marvin Williams added 16 points while rookie Frank Kaminsky contributed 15 points. Irving top scored for the Cavs with 26 points, JR Smith pitched in 14 points while Kevin Love had a double-double with 12 points and 12 boards. The win pushed the Hornets to 24-25, 9th place in the Eastern Conference while the Cavaliers dropped to 35-13, still tops in the East.
