MELINDO'S OPPONENT 'DIVINO' FONTES DOWN WITH DENGUE, REPLACED BY UNDEFEATED VICTOR EMMANUEL OLIVO By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Tue, 24 Nov 2015 The opponent of light flyweight Milan Melindo, Carlos ?Divino? Fontes is down with dengue and has been replaced by undefeated Victor Emmanuel Olivo, resulting in the downgrading of Melindo?s scheduled WBO International junior light flyweight title fight to a non-title bout with super flyweight King Arthur Villanueva?s WBC International super flyweight championship elevated to the main event at the Hoops Dome in Lapu Lapu City this Saturday in a fight card titled ?Back with a Vengeance? on the highly successful ?Pinoy Pride? 34th edition. The handlers of Fontes submitted a medical certificate from Dr. Carlos Francisco Aguilera Bejarmo dated November 19 in which the doctor certified that Fontes was diagnosed with dengue and could not fight. The 19 year old Olivo has a record of 9-0 with 4 knockouts but has only fought one ten-round bout with the eight others being four-rounders, three of them which he won, against boxers making their pro debut. Problem is Olivo is listed as a bantamweight by boxrec.com and the lowest weight he has fought at was at 115 pounds when he won a unanimous ten round unanimous decision over Jonathan Sanchez last April 17 with judges Miguel Angel Velasquez and Luis Gonzalez scoring the fight for Olivo 97-93 and then third judge Ricardo Grijalva scoring the fight 98-94 for the Mexican youngster from Sonora, Mexico. The Main Event obtained a video of the fight and although it was his first ten round bout Olivo appeared in good shape and fought aggressively, moving and throwing combinations throughout the bout. We also saw some training video which indicated that Olivo was in shape although he may be a last-minute substitute. In his last fight on July 4 this year, Olivo won by a 4th round TKO in a four round bout against Daniel Gonzalez who was making his pro debut after earlier scoring a 1st round TKO in another four-round bout against Jose Luis Leal who was also making his pro debut on March 21, 2014.
