NBA -- Batum, Jefferson lead Hornets past Blazers, 106-94 By Eric Biasbas PhilBoxing.com Mon, 16 Nov 2015 CHARLOTTE -- Two nights after encouraging his countrymen to be strong in the wake of terrorist attacks in his native France, swingman Nic Batum had another strong all around game. The 6-foot-8 sharpshooter tallied 33 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists while teammate Al Jefferson came out of his scoring struggles and scored 29 points on 13-of-17 field goal shooting as the Charlotte Hornets prevailed over the sliding Portland Trailblazers, 106-94. "It's been very emotional for us, we got to stay focused on the game and stay strong for our family and friends and for the people who died," Batum said after the game. The Hornets answered the opening bell with all guns blazing and led 71-45 at the half on 65.1 % field goal shooting including 8-of-16 form beyond the arc. Batum and Jefferson had 20 points apiece at halftime. It seemed the Hornets would cruise to victory but the Blazers made a push in the fourth quarter led by CJ McCollum and Allen Crabbe and managed to cut down the lead to six at 98-92 with three minutes remaining. Batum then made two free throws and Jefferson hit a jumper to give The Hornets some breathing room. Batum, who was traded from the Blazers before the season, quipped " They are the best team at coming back. I told the guys they won't give up. They will try to make a comeback and make a run. They did it. But we found a way to score at the end, we got some stops." Blazers' coach Terry Stotts lamented that his team was not focused in the first half. " The way we played in the second half is how we have to play. We have to be the more aggressive team defensively to give ourselves a chance." Kemba Walker added 14 points and 5 assists while Jeremy Lamb had 13 points for the 5-5 Hornets. Damian Lillard topscored for the losing cause of the Blazers with 23 points, Crabbe had 17 points, McCollum added 16 markers. Portland now has lost five in a row and has a record of 4-7.
